WAUWATOSA (WITI) -- The Wisconsin International Academy now owns the Days Inn Hotel in Wauwatosa.The group paid more than $2.6 million for the building, which includes the Bluemound Gardens restaurant.It will be turned into a center for foreign students attending local high schools.The renovation will be completed this summer.

Mayfair Collection opens to thousands of excited customers
WAUWATOSA (WITI) -- The Mayfair Collection kicked off its much-anticipated grand opening in Wauwatosa on Thursday, April 3rd.The cold, wet and downright dreary weather did not dampen the spirits of the thousands of people who ventured there to shop.Sue Binter joined a steady stream of shopping visiting the new collection of shops near Highway 45 and Burleigh."I'm thrilled to see all the cars that are here, all the people that have come," said Binter." "People in Wauwatosa, I think, are very excited to see this."But the Mayfair Collection is not important just for Wauwatosa, it's important to Milwaukee County as well because it'll generate significant sales tax from the stores.FOX6 News has been told 60 percent of the Mayfair Collection's Phase One retailers are up and running.

WAUWATOSA (WITI) -- The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office says a "skeletonized body" has been discovered near Underwood Parkway and Bluemound in Wauwatosa.The body, said to be that of a 57-year-old man was discovered on Sunday, March 30th just after 4:00 p.m.According to the Medical Examiner's Office, the body was discovered by a father and son who had been hiking through the wooded area looking for deer antlers.

WAUWATOSA (WITI) -- Wauwatosa Fire officials say an alert neighbor noticed smoke coming from a home on Palmetto Avenue on Monday morning, March 24th -- and called 911.Responding fire crews observed visible fire and smoke coming from the rear of the building.The fire was under control within about 30 minutes.Fire officials say the fire appears to have started due to smoking materials discarded into an outside trash bin, which quickly extended into the attic.The home is said to have suffered moderate damage.Fire crews were able to rescue the family cat from the home's basement.

WAUWATOSA (WITI) -- A group of teens put on a bake sale Saturday, December 21st, to honor the memory of Wauwatosa police officer Jennifer Sebena who was killed one year ago on Christmas Eve.One of the organizers, Maggie Ross, says Sebena was a wonderful mentor who she met through a youth group at Elmbrook Church."I want to do a positive outlook on her life and kind of keep her tradition and spirit going," said Ross.Wauwatosa Police Chief Barry Weber showed his support for the cause and his fallen officer.
