WAUWATOSA -- Wauwatosa police say car thefts have increased by 271% this year -- and in many of these incidents, vehicles were left running and unattended -- with the keys in the ignition.

MILWAUKEE COUNTY -- Najee Harmon has pleaded guilty to charges filed against him in connection with an officer-involved shooting that left a detective with the Wauwatosa Police Department injured.

Wauwatosa police arrest suspect in carjacking of 60-year-old woman at gas station

WAUWATOSA -- Wauwatosa police tell FOX6 News a suspect wanted in connection with the carjacking of a 60-year-old woman that happened on January 18th near 68th and North Avenue has been taken into custody.Police released surveillance photos in the hopes of identifying and apprehending the suspect in this case.After those photos were featured in news reports, police said they received several phone calls and the man was tentatively identified.He is now in custody.Police say the 60-year-old woman was carjacked in the parking lot of a Speedway gas station.

MILWAUKEE COUNTY -- A 29-year-old Brookfield man, facing three citations in connection with the poaching of "Bow Tie" the deer in Wauwatosa made his initial appearance in court in Milwaukee County on Tuesday, January 12th.Jason Elliott is facing the following citations: failure to validate or attach a deer carcass tag, hunting with an improper license, and hunting a deer without the required color of clothing.Elliott pleaded no contest to these citations -- and the court then found him guilty.He has been ordered to pay a total of $1,540 in fines by March 14th.

Officer-involved shooting in Wauwatosa; officer, suspect injured, female found dead

WAUWATOSA -- Wauwatosa police on Monday night, January 11th were on the scene of an officer-involved shooting at the Normandy Village Apartments near 124th and North Avenue.Wauwatosa Police Chief Barry Weber said officers were called out for a possible domestic incident around 8:00 p.m.When they arrived, a chase ensued between officers and someone who was fleeing the scene.

Top of semi trailer smashes into railroad overpass on Swan Boulevard in Wauwatosa

WAUWATOSA -- The top of a semi trailer smashed into a railroad overpass in Wauwatosa on Thursday afternoon, January 7th.It happened on Swan Boulevard near the entrance to the Hoyt Park Pool -- just south of the Menomonee River Parkway shortly before 1:00 p.m.Police say the semi was headed southbound when it struck the overpass.The road is a "no trucking" street.We're told the semi was hauling building materials for a foundry, but those materials weren't hazardous or concerning.Swan Boulevard was closed to southbound traffic for a short time due to this incident.A tow truck came to the scene to remove the semi.The scene was cleared just before 4:00 p.m.Police said they expected a citation would be issued against the semi's driver.Canadian Pacific officials were notified, and they responded to the scene to inspect the bridge.

Wauwatosa Fire officials on scene of separate incidents involving trees on homes during storm

WAUWATOSA -- Officials with the Wauwatosa Fire Department on Monday, December 28th were called out for two large trees that came down on homes -- in separate incidents.The first incident happened on Church Street near Hillcrest Drive around 7:30 a.m.The second incident happened on N. 110th Place just before 3:00 p.m.We're told both of the trees that fell led to structural damage to these homes -- but no one was hurt.No one had to be displaced from either home as a result of these incidents.City crews hauled the tree away from the home on Church Street, and a tree removal company handled the tree at N. 110th Place.

Nearly $5K raised for Tosa Cares when Canadian Pacific's holiday train made a stop in the city

WAUWATOSA -- FOX6 News has received some statistics after Canadian Pacific's Holiday Train made a stop in Wauwatosa on December 4th.Jim Plaisted, the executive director of the Village of Wauwatosa’s Business Improvement District tells FOX6 News the Holiday Train drew 10,000 to 15,000 people to the area near the Harwood Avenue railroad crossing, according to police estimates.13,000 pounds of food were collected, and $4,750 was raised -- $2,500 donated by Canadian Pacific.That money is benefiting Tosa Cares -- a food pantry in Wauwatosa.We're told there are ongoing discussions between Wauwatosa officials and Canadian Pacific officials about a holiday train stop in Wauwatosa next year.A decision won't be made until early 2016.PHOTO GALLERY:
