Streets closed in Mount Pleasant after coal train experiences problems with engine

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Mount Pleasant police said on Thursday evening, March 3rd a Union Pacific coal train was stopped on the tracks in the area of Airline Road and Gittings Road/Airline Road and Spring Street in Mount Pleasant after experiencing a mechanical failure with its engine.A maintenance crew from Union Pacific was working on fixing the engine.The call for this incident came in around 6:30 p.m.No one was hurt.Spring Street (Highway T), Old Spring Street, and Gittings Road in Mount Pleasant were closed in between 90th Street (western boundary) and Airline Road (eastern boundary).Crews were working on getting an engine out of Milwaukee to come, hook up to the train, and at least move it out of the way of automobile traffic.Detours around the area where the train is are Highway 20 (south) and Highway K (north).

Caledonia police: Man tells bizarre story to rob elderly couple's home

RACINE COUNTY -- An elderly couple was robbed in Caledonia by a man claiming their roof was leaking and he was going to fix it because his father was the one who put the roof on to begin with.According to Caledonia police, an elderly woman was shoveling snow on Wednesday, March 2nd on Tennessee Road, when she was approached by a Hispanic man who told her his father put the roof on her house 10 years ago.Police say the man told her he stopped by because the roof was leaking and needed to be fixed.Authorities say even though the homeowners just had the roof replaced last fall, they let the man into their home.According to police, the man created a distraction and was left unattended inside the home.

Racine Co. family reunited with dog Violet, who went missing after crash on I-94

RACINE — A Racine County family whose dog was killed in a crash on I-94 on New Year's Eve has been reunited with a second dog that went missing after the accident.The dogs were in a car driven by AlGene Caraulia's mother that was struck by a stolen vehicle on I-94 on Thursday, December 31st.She was not significantly injured.But one of the family's dogs, Zoom, was struck and killed by another vehicle after the accident.
