Mount Pleasant man crashes car into utility pole, cited for OWI

MOUNT PLEASANT -- A 50-year-old man was arrested late Saturday, February 27th after crashing his vehicle into a power pole at State Highway 20 and Emmertsen Rd. in Mount Pleasant.

Mount Pleasant officers were in the area checking on an alarm around 11:20 p.m. when they heard what sounded like loud gunshots. Officers immediately began searching the area. During that search they came across the wreck.

The vehicle in the crash not only struck a utility pole with transformers, but also sheered the power pole in half causing transformers to fall to the ground and pull down power lines. The vehicle and its operator came to a final rest on the southeast corner of the intersection.

Officers at the scene immediately secured the scene due to the live wires.

Officials say through the course of the investigation, they discovered the operator of the vehicle was not only operating with a suspended license, but also was operating while under the Influence of intoxicants. He was arrested for the OWI and charged with various traffic offenses as well.
