Swollen river: Heavy rain brings Fox River in Waukesha to minor flood stage

WAUKESHA (WITI) -- After heavy rains on Sunday and again on Monday, the Fox River is on the verge of flood stage in Waukesha -- and it's affecting the riverwalk near downtown.Officials have blocked off a trail that usually takes folks under a bridge near the Fox River because the lowest part of the trail is under water.So far though, it looks like the river levels are only causing inconvenience in downtown Waukesha -- and not damage.Heavy rain has led to a swollen Fox River.Near the river is the Sweet Perfections Bake Shoppe.

Girl Scouts put their "purrsonalities" into new cat habitat at HAWS

WAUKESHA (WITI) -- On Sunday, April 27th, HAWS, the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County, welcomed nine members of the Junior Girl Scout Troop 2553 from Horizon Elementary, Pewaukee, as they completed their Bronze Award by installing a special new cat habitat at the shelter.The new cat habitat very much reflects the Troop members’ personalities: the Princess motif is complete with a kitty castle, throne room and luxury ‘meow motel.’“The girls were very excited to do a project for HAWS,” noted Troop Leader, Heather Gergen. “They utilized skills learned during their six years in Girls Scouts while gaining many new ones along the way including teamwork, brainstorming, project planning and management, research, budgeting, fundraising, securing material donations, construction, sewing and painting.”The Troop brainstormed and researched several projects before voting to work with HAWS to refurbish their cat habitat.
