Suspects sought after Escalade stolen from Brookfield found at Walmart in Whitewater
BROOKFIELD/WHITEWATER -- Police are looking for the suspect(s) who stole an Escalade in Brookfield and dumped it at the Walmart store in Whitewater.Police have released surveillance photos of the suspects captured inside the Walmart store.They are looking for three men and one woman.The 2015 Escalade was stolen last week from a home near Lisbon Avenue and Brookfield Road.The SUV was tracked via OnStar to Whitewater.Police say it was found with stolen New York license plates on it.If you have any information in this case, you're asked to contact police.

BROOKFIELD (WITI) — Police records show the Waukesha County Department of Health and Human Services knew that a 13-year-old child with autism was being forced to live in a cold basement at least a year before she was removed from her home."The systems and people who are supposed to protect the most vulnerable members of our community failed this teenager, multiple times and at every level," says Liz Field, President of Autism Speaks. "It is important to investigate how this inhumane situation continued, despite numerous reports and visible signs of neglect and abuse."According to New Berlin police reports from 2012-2014, WCDHHS was notified at least 10 times about concerns police, neighbors and teachers had about how the child was being treated at home.In March, the child's mother and stepfather were charged with child neglect for allegedly locking the teen who has autism in an unfinished basement with no toilet or sink, forcing her to wear diapers and refusing to allow her to sit on furniture.

BROOKFIELD (WITI) -- United States Attorney James Santelle announced that on February 18th, a grand jury sitting in the Eastern District of Wisconsin returned a 15-count indictment against the former owners of New Horizon, LLC, a title and closing company that operated in Brookfield from 2006 to 2011.The indictment charges 43-year-old Timothy Kugler of West Bend, 41-year-old Lisa Verken (formerly Lisa Kugler) of West Bend, and 46-year-old Michelle Hayes of Wauwatosa.Each person is charged with participating in a bank fraud conspiracy, and with multiple counts of bank fraud, and false tax returns.The indictment alleges that Kugler, Verken, and Hayes executed their fraud scheme by diverting more than $1.8 million of lender funds from the New Horizon escrow account into a separate account from which they issued checks to themselves and to each other.

BROOKFIELD (WITI) -- Dozens of firefighters were called in to put out a blaze at a large home in Brookfield on Sunday, October 26th, at 1125 Ashbourne Court.Less than a week before Halloween, a family's nightmare."I had seen a lot of smoke, it was very scary," said Linda Russo, lives nearby.Neighbors say their street was filled with smoke as flames went through the roof.A beautiful fall morning on Ashbourne Court, obscured by smoke."It's one thing to see smoke, a big cloud of smoke as we were coming up the drive but it's another thing to actually see the fire itself," said Russo.A number of agencies had to be called in to get the fire under control.
