Water diversion project in Waukesha faces scrutiny

WAUKESHA — Waukesha officials are facing opposition for their plan to pipe in drinking water from Lake Michigan.Wisconsin Public Radio reports the Great Lakes and Saint Lawrence Cities Initiative, a group of U.S. and Canadian mayors, has asked the Great Lakes Compact Council, which represents surrounding states, for a rehearing on the council's decision to approve the diversion last June.The city would be the first community outside the Great Lakes Basin to get lake water under terms of an agreement approved in 2008 called the Great Lakes Compact, which allows cities in counties that straddle the basin to apply for Great Lakes water.The initiative's executive director, David Ullrich, says the coalition's concerns center around the substance of the Council's decision, the procedures used and the standards applied in making the decision.

Woman dies at the hospital after 2-vehicle crash near Capitol and Springdale in Brookfield

BROOKFIELD -- Flight for Life was called out to the scene of a two-vehicle crash in Brookfield Tuesday night, January 3rd -- and a 58-year-old woman later died at the hospital.The crash happened around 8:00 p.m. near Capitol Drive and Springdale Road.Officials say one of the vehicles, driven by a 16-year-old boy from Oconomowoc, was traveling eastbound on Capitol Drive, approaching Springdale Road.

Flight for Life called out to head-on collision in New Berlin; 2 injured

NEW BERLIN -- Flight for Life was called to the scene of a head-on collision in New Berlin Monday morning, January 2nd.The accident happened around 7 a.m. on Racine Avenue near Swartz Road.Authorities say one individual was flown to Froedtert Hospital by Flight for Life and one driver was taken to a local hospital by New Berlin Fire Department ambulance.The accident is still under investigation.

Swanson Elementary bus driver arrested for driving bus under influence of drugs, carrying concealed handgun

BROOKFIELD -- A Swanson Elementary School bus driver is under arrest, accused of driving students while on drugs and carrying a firearm.According to Brookfield police, they stopped a 43-year-old female driver just after she dropped off the students at school on Friday morning, December 23rd.Officers say she was impaired and had a concealed handgun.The case has been referred to the Waukesha County District Attorney's Office for the following offenses:
