American Airlines halts Hong Kong flights, United to follow

NEW YORK -- American Airlines said Tuesday it has suspended flights to Hong Kong through Feb. 20 due to weak demand, and United Airlines will do the same next weekend.Interest in travel to Hong Kong was already weakened by months of anti-government protests in the city and has fallen off more recently as the coronavirus outbreak spreads in China.On Tuesday, officials in Hong Kong reported the first death from the virus in the semi-autonomous territory, fanning fear that the virus is spreading locally.

Michigan couple sues airline for discrimination after getting kicked off flight

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — A Michigan couple is suing American Airlines for discrimination after being removed from a flight because the airline said the Orthodox Jewish couple smelled bad.Yehuda Yosef Adler, Jennie Adler and their then-19-month old daughter were kicked off a Jan. 23, 2019, flight from Miami to Detroit by a gate agent.

Delta, American and United suspend flights between US, China

NEW YORK — Delta Air Lines and American Airlines said Friday they will suspend all flights between the U.S. and China, making them the first U.S.-based airlines to do so and joining several international carriers that have stopped flying to China as the coronavirus outbreak continues to spread.United Airlines announced that it will suspend flights to Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu but continue flights to Hong Kong.American said it will stop flying to China starting Friday and running through March 27.

FAA seeks $3.9 million fine against Southwest Airlines

WASHINGTOn -- Federal regulators want to fine Southwest Airlines $3.9 million for violating standards on how to calculate the weight and load balance on flights.The Federal Aviation Administration says Southwest made improper calculations on more than 21,500 flights from May until early August of 2018.Weight is used to determine the maximum number of passengers on a plane and how much fuel it should carry.
