Waukesha Co. Sheriff: Motorcyclist killed in crash on Highway 16 Saturday evening

WAUKESHA (WITI) -- The Waukesha County Sheriff's Department confirms with FOX6 News a motorcyclist was killed in a crash on Saturday evening, June 21st.It happened shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Highway 16, east of County Highway JJ in the city of Pewaukee.Waukesha County Sheriff's officials tell FOX6 News upon first responders' arrival to the scene, the sole occupant of the motorcycle was found to be seriously injured.The motorcycle's operator, a 21-year-old Pewaukee man, was pronounced dead at the scene.Waukesha County Sheriff's official say their investigation indicates the motorcyclist was headed eastbound on Highway 16 when the motorcycle left the roadway.The incident remains under investigation.

Train strikes car near College Road & Grand Avenue in Waukesha Sunday evening

WAUKESHA (WITI) -- Waukesha police on Sunday evening, June 15th responded to an incident involving a train and a car at College Road and Grand Avenue.Waukesha police say the vehicle was struck by the train.No one was injured.The incident happened around 6:00 p.m. -- and the train was able to go on its way shortly after.No additional details have yet been released.The following photos were sent in to FOX6 News by Joe Curtis of Waukesha.

Unexpected ultra-lite lands on grounds of Hamilton High School in Sussex

WAUKESHA Co. (WITI) -- An ultra-lite plane landed on the grounds of Hamilton High School in Sussex.Officials say a man was flying his son to the graduation ceremony, but it is not clear if the son was actually graduating or just going to watch.The graduation ceremony was held inside of the high school.The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department is in contact with the FAA and the man has not been arrested.It's unclear at this time whether the dad will face any charges or punishment.

APPROVED: Waukesha Central Middle School to be named after Les Paul

WAUKESHA (WITI) -- Sue Baker with the Les Paul Foundation confirms with FOX6 News a proposal to change the name of Waukesha Central Middle School to honor Les Paul has been approved.The proposal passed on Wednesday night, June 11th with a 5-4 vote.The school's new name will be the "Les Paul Middle School-Central Campus."No decision has been made as to when the name change will take effect.We're told a group of at least six alumni from Central Middle School showed up to the School Board meeting to voice their opposition to the name change.Additionally, a petition was presented with about 170 signatures opposing the name change.Les Paul passed away in 2009 -- and Waukesha, Wisconsin is his hometown.Paul did attend class at Central Middle School -- although it was a junior high and high school at that time.

WAUKESHA (WITI) -- New developments -- one day after two 12-year-old girls were charged as adults, accused of plotting their friend's murder for months, and attempting to kill her in a Waueska park this weekend.12-year-old Morgan Geyser and 12-year-old Anissa Weier each face one count of attempted first degree intentional homicide as party to a crime — and each faces 60 years in prison.The criminal complaint in the case says on Saturday, May 31st, a citizen called Waukesha police to report a stabbing — after locating a 12-year-old girl suffering stab wounds on the sidewalk in the area of Rivera Drive and Big Bend Road.The complaint says the girl told the man: “Help me, I’ve been stabbed.”The man called 911 and tried to apply pressure to her wounds — and stayed until the Fire Department arrived.On Tuesday, June 3rd -- for the first time, we're hearing that man's 911 call.

WAUKESHA (WITI) -- Fox River Christian Church in Waukesha had pastors and counselors available on Tuesday night, June 3rd to discuss the weekend stabbing incident that nearly killed a 12-year-old girl.Pastor Rodney Buck with Fox River Christian Church hosted a gathering beginning at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church -- located on Highway 164 and Lawnsdale Road in Waukesha.The 12-year-old victim in this case was stabbed 19 times by two 12-year-old girls that she considered friends.Those girls have now been charged as adults.12-year-old Morgan Geyser and 12-year-old Anissa Weier each face a felony count of attempted first degree intentional homicide.Each could face 60 years in prison.The girls are accused of plotting their friend's murder for months -- and attempting to kill her on Saturday, May 31st, inside a Waukesha park.The victim in this case was discovered by a citizen in the area of Rivera Drive and Big Bend Road.She was rushed into surgery -- and remains hospitalized.When officials spoke with the stabbing victim, the complaint says she told them she was stabbed in the woods by her best friend, Morgan Geyser.“One suspect held the victim down while the other suspect stabbed her 19 times in the arms, legs and torso.

WAUKESHA (WITI) -- Waukesha County officials are sorting through the details of a deputy-involved shooting that happened Monday, June 2nd just after 7:30 p.m.The Waukesha County Communication Center received a call from a citizen requesting a welfare check of her roommate who did not return home.Authorities were advised that a 52-year-old male subject from Big Bend was possibly sitting in his vehicle, which was described as an older model burgundy Buick Regal, in a wooded area off of Hillview Drive in the Town of Vernon.Just after 8:15 p.m., three deputies arrived in the area that the vehicle was believed to have gone.

Waukesha girl stabbed was "one millimeter away from certain death"

WAUKESHA (AP) — A court document says the 12-year-old girl stabbed 19 times in some woods in Waukesha narrowly escaped death.Doctors at Waukesha Memorial Hospital told police the girl was "one millimeter away from certain death" because one of her stab wounds missed a major artery near her heart by a millimeter.The document says a surgical team performing laparoscopic surgery on the girl found injuries to her liver, pancreas and stomach.UPDATE: On Tuesday morning, June 3rd, Waukesha authorities released the 911 call associated with this case.

Attack on 12-year-old girl prompts website access review

WAUKESHA (AP) — The superintendent of Waukesha schools says the district is reviewing the websites its student can access in light of the recent attack on a middle school student.Prosecutors say the two 12-year-old girls charged with stabbing a classmate were influenced by a website of fictional horror stories.Superintendent Todd Gray says the crime isn't a district issue because it didn't take place on school grounds or during school hours.

Laundry list of violations for Waukesha detective, but he's back on the job?!

WAUKESHA COUNTY (WITI) -- He's a Waukesha County detective, whom co-workers have called "a hazard on the job" -- someone "who's been asleep at the wheel for more than a decade." So why does he still have a job?If you knew all of the things Detective Pete Korns admitted to doing, you might think he'd be in a lot of hot water.But after an internal investigation, he's back on the job -- a job some of his co-workers don't think he should have.Korns has been a Waukesha County detective for 26 years, but after a three-day suspension, he's now back on the job -- even though he admitted to violating numerous department rules, over and over again."There is literally a laundry list of different violations," Waukesha County Sheriff Dan Trawicki said.Hundreds of pages of documents released on Tuesday, June 3rd shed light on an internal investigation that started in 2012.That's when Korns' wife, Natasha, was caught burglarizing a neighbor's home.Investigators say she used her husband's lock pick kit to break into the home in the middle of the day.Since then, Korns' co-workers have caught him sleeping on the job and snoring, using his work computer for personal things, like accessing Craigslist more than 6,000 times and researching steroids.In January, he drove his squad car for two months without a valid driver's license -- and often left work early or was missing for "large chunks of time."Korns has been in trouble for not properly storing evidence.
