RACINE (WITI) -- The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) Racine Campus is celebrating Memorial Day weekend with a special promotion for all dogs and puppies.From Wednesday, May 21 to Saturday, May 24, all adult dog adoption fees have been reduced to $79 and all puppy fees are just $99.“As the weather has been warming up, we’ve started to see an increase in stray dog intake, and we’re hoping that the discounted fees attract more adopters to open their hearts and homes to a homeless pup,” said Alison Kleibor, the director of the Racine Campus. “We expect an uptick in stray dogs over the holiday weekend, as well, so the more dogs who go home, the more space we have to house stray dogs.”In addition, WHS offers an ongoing 25% military discount for all active duty or veteran military at all three of their campus locations with valid proof of military service.The Racine Campus will be open Wed-Friday 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and is closed Sunday and Monday.

After writing "catch me if you can" in bomb threat, man pleads guilty
RACINE (WITI) -- 28-year-old Jacob Vanderhoef has pleaded guilty to a felony bomb scare charge in connection with a bomb threat discovered at Proclain Hydraulics in Racine on October 29th, 2013.
Racine man accused of pawning stolen jewelry, but where did he get it from?
RACINE (WITI) -- 19-year-old Andrew Casper of Racine has been charged in a case in which he is accused of pawning stolen property.Casper faces one count of receiving stolen property (greater than $10,000) as party to a crime.Casper has previous convictions from 2012, including first-offense OWI, criminal damage to property and bail jumping, and possession of synthetic marijuana.A criminal complaint against Casper says Caledonia police on April 15th responded to a home on Newman Road -- where they spoke with a woman who reported her diamond wedding ring and engagement band were missing from her jewelry box.The woman told police she further discovered several items of jewelry missing from her home.The complaint says the woman made a list of the items missing from her home, which included numerous pieces of jewelry, an iPod Touch and $610 in currency.The total loss of items taken was $25,309 -- according to the complaint.The woman told police she believed the items were stolen by her babysitter, and the woman and police met with the babysitter at the Caledonia Police Department on April 19th.The complaint says the woman who noticed the jewelry and other items missing went to the mother of her babysitter -- and was able to recover a Ziploc bag full of jewelry from the babysitter.The babysitter told police she had stolen the items in order to obtain money for her boyfriend, according to the complaint.The babysitter told police she took jewelry from the woman's home on Newman Road and gave it to Casper and another man, who took the jewelry and pawned it.

17-year-old from Racine charged with criminal trespassing
RACINE (WITI) -- A 17-year-old from Racine has been charged in connection with an incident allegedly involving criminal trespassing.Braxxton Griffey of Racine faces one count of criminal trespassing -- a misdemeanor charge.On April 4th, 2014, just after 10:00 p.m., police were dispatched to a residence in the 2200 block of Harriet Street in Racine in reference to a burglary in progress.A 911 caller reportedly found male subjects in the residence -- and the subjects had run out of the rear door.A criminal complaint in the case says two women showed up to the home that they believed was vacant.

Mother, four children displaced by house fire in Racine
RACINE (WITI) -- Racine Fire officials say a mother and her four children are receiving temporary shelter via the American Red Cross after a fire on Tuesday, April 1st.The fire broke out at a home in on West Street, just before 7:00 p.m.Fire officials believe the fire was started by children playing with fire in an upstairs bedroom.The fire was contained to the bedroom, and quickly extinguished.The fire caused about $15,000 in damage.Fire officials say this home had no working smoke detectors.

Racine McDonald's restaurants stepping up for Mitchell students
RACINE (WITI) – The seven McDonald’s restaurants in Racine will join forces on Monday, March 31st to raise funds for the fire-damaged Mitchell Elementary and Middle Schools.On that day, five percent from the entire day’s sales from each of the Racine McDonald’s restaurants will be donated to the schools’ rebuilding efforts.“The day after the fire, I received calls from several teachers and parents to ask about running a special fundraiser for Mitchell,” said Dave Jones who operates six McDonald’s restaurants with his family. “So the idea really came from the community wanting to help, and we were happy to come up with a plan.”Customers are also invited to donate school supplies at the restaurants, where McDonald’s personnel will ensure the supplies get into the hands of the teachers and students.The Racine McDonald’s restaurants participating in the fundraising event are:
Milwaukee man arrested for his 10th OWI offense in Racine
RACINE (WITI) -- Racine County Sheriff's officials have announced the arrest of a 44-year-old man for his 10th OWI.Timothy Conley of Milwaukee was arrested on Wednesday, March 19th just before 12:30 p.m.Racine County Sheriff's officials were notified of a reckless driver headed southbound on I-94 near County Highway K.
