Appeals court upholds child abuse conviction of Kenosha woman

MADISON (AP) -- A state appeals court has ruled a jury properly convicted a Kenosha woman of forcing her young son to take a cold shower that killed him.Multiple experts testified that Abelina Zalazar's 8-year-old son, Uriel, died of hypothermia after Zalazar forced him to take a freezing shower as punishment for hitting his brother in February 2008.A jury convicted Zalazar of first-degree reckless homicide in December 2009.

The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force is looking for 32-year-old Jameil Garrett, after they say two days after serving time for a separate attack, Garrett headed to his ex-girlfriend's place, where he allegedly beat her so badly she became unconscious, and after waking up in the hospital, suffered hearing loss.Law enforcement believes Garrett could be hiding out in Kenosha or Chicago, and say he has friends in family in both locations.He's described as five foot, 11 inches tall, and weighs about 165 pounds.

Lucky turn of events helps stop Kenosha house fire

Kenosha fire officials say a fire on the lower floor of a two-story home could have had tragic consequences if not for two extremely lucky factors.Battalion Chief Matthew Haerter says a mother on the home's second floor was showing her son how to test the smoke detector Saturday morning.
