Kenosha police warning residents about sweepstakes scam

KENOSHA (WITI) -- Kenosha police are warning residents about a scam taking place in the city, in which a person calls residents to inform them they have won a prize in the Publisher's Clearinghouse sweepstakes.Kenosha police say the person who receives the call is advised to go to the drug store to purchase a certain type of card for a dollar amount specified -- with the promise that the prize would arrive at their home in a few hours.Police say the person receiving the call is then asked for their banking information.Police say residents should NEVER give out any personal or banking information to anyone over the phone.

62-year-old man drowns in Town of Randall Tuesday

KENOSHA (WITI) -- Kenosha County Sheriff's officials say a 62-year-old man was found unresponsive in the water off of Lake Side Park Beach in the Town of Randall on Tuesday, June 25th.Officials say they responded to the scene just before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.Thomas Salack of Powers Lake was found floating in the water off the beach by other citizens who were at the beach.Officials say witnesses saw Salack enter the water approximately 25 minutes prior to him being found, but did not report hearing any swimmer distress during that time.CPR was administered by witnesses, but resuscitation was not successful.Drowning is suspected to be the cause of death pending the Medical Examiner’s Report.No foul play is suspected.

KENOSHA (WITI) -- Friends of a 31-year-old man presumed drowned at Lake Michigan came together to remember his life and legacy on Tuesday, June 18th -- one day after he went missing near Kenosha's North Pier.Ben McCarter was swimming Monday afternoon with his friends in Lake Michigan near Kenosha's North Pier, when a strong current pulled him under.

31-year-old Kenosha man missing after swimming in Lake Michigan

KENOSHA (WITI) -- Kenosha Police Department officers responded with Kenosha Fire Department rescue personnel and US Coast Guard officials to the North Lighthouse Pier in regards to a swimmer in distress Monday, June 17th.According to officials,  31-year-old Benjamin McCarter from Kenosha had been swimming with friends off the North Lighthouse Pier when he began to struggle about 10 to 15 feet away from the east end of the pier.Authorities say it appears that the McCarter was having difficulty swimming against the waves, which had gotten rough.

Kenosha man killed when his motorcycle is struck by car

KENOSHA (WITI) -- Officials say a 26-year-old Kenosha man was killed in a motorcycle crash involving a motor vehicle on Monday, June 17th.It happened at 39th Avenue and 52nd Street.Officials say the man was driving a 2002 Yamaha motorcycle, headed southbound on 39th Avenue.The other driver, a 69-year-old Kenosha man was driving a 2003 Honda SUV, and was exiting a parking lot onto 39th Avenue in the 5200 block.

Kenosha man dies after crashing vehicle while fleeing officer

KENOSHA (WITI) --  A 28-year-old man from Kenosha died Tuesday, June 11th after crashing his vehicle while fleeing from an officer on 30th Avenue just south of 52nd Street in Kenosha.According to police, an officer with the Kenosha Police Department conducted a traffic stop around 2 a.m. on a vehicle for violation of a traffic control signal.During the traffic stop, the driver fled the scene, traveling southbound on 30th Avenue at a high rate of speed.
