Gov. Evers authorizes Wisconsin National Guard to help with Hurricane Dorian response

MADISON — The Wisconsin National Guard is trying to determine how a drone crashed near Volk Field.The Guard issued a news release Thursday, July 18 saying a RQ-7 Shadow drone lost its link to its operator at Volk Field on Wednesday afternoon about two miles northwest of the base during a training exercise.The drone went down into trees south of Interstate 90/94 between Oakdale and Camp Douglas.

MADISON — People in Monroe and Juneau counties can expect to see more military vehicles on the road and aircraft overhead this week as the Wisconsin National Guard runs a massive disaster training exercise.The exercise, dubbed Patriot North, is set to begin Monday and run through Thursday at Volk Field in Camp Douglas and Fort McCoy in Tomah.The training is designed to help civilian emergency management officials and first responders coordinate with the military in a host of disaster scenarios including high winds, evacuations and a storm surge collapsing buildings and causing mass casualties.The training will involve more than 700 civilians, volunteers and military personnel from more than 20 states.

Wisconsin National Guard tracks 52 sexual assault complaints

MADISON — Wisconsin National Guard officials recorded more than 50 reports of sexual assault between 2013 and 2017.The Guard's sexual assault response coordinator, Robert Brania, told reporters during a question-and-answer session Thursday that investigators have taken 52 reports during those years.Twenty were so-called "restricted" reports in which the alleged victim requests confidentiality and no investigation is launched.Thirty reports were "unrestricted" reports where the alleged victim doesn't request confidentiality and the incident is referred to police.
