Sendik’s Fresh2GO opens on campus of Marquette University

MILWAUKEE -- The new Sendik’s Fresh2GO Marquette store officially opened on the campus of Marquette University on Tuesday, August 22nd.The grocery store is located on 16th Street, just north of West Wells Street.Marquette President Michael Lovell was joined on Tuesday by Sendik’s family co-owner Ted Balistreri and civic leaders, including Mayor Tom Barrett and Alderman Bob Bauman, as well as other senior leaders from Marquette and Sendik’s for the grand opening celebration.

Police: Marquette University employee hit by car near campus

MILWAUKEE -- Marquette University police say a Marquette University employee was hit by a vehicle and seriously injured while crossing the street on Monday, August 21st.It happened around 1:20 p.m. near the intersection of 15th and Wells Street.Officials say MUPD immediately responded to the scene and the employee was taken a hospital for treatment.The employee is in stable condition.Authorities say the driver of the vehicle cooperated with the investigation.

UWM's Manfred Olson Planetarium to host NASA-sanctioned viewing of total solar eclipse

MILWAUKEE -- The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on August 21st will host a viewing of the total solar eclipse.According to a news release from UWM officials, at noon on August 21st, unless it’s very cloudy, the sky will begin to get unusually dark.The Manfred Olson Planetarium staff at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is hosting a NASA-sanctioned viewing and picnic event that day from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with telescopes and safety eyewear available.

Kohl's volunteers fill backpacks, help MPS get students ready for the school year

MENOMONEE FALLS -- Nearly 200 Kohl’s associate volunteers on Wednesday, August 2nd helped get Milwaukee Public Schools students ready for the school year ahead by organizing and packing 10,000 backpacks to be distributed to students in time for the first day of school.The Kohl’s associates filled backpacks with crayons, glue sticks, folders and more, which will then be distributed to students district wide across the Milwaukee Public School system.Students in grades K4, 1st and 2nd grade will receive the backpacks as they return to school for the new year.

Milwaukee area students spending the summer studying the science behind the opioid epidemic

MILWAUKEE -- Nearly two dozen area high school students are studying the science behind our nation's heroin epidemic.22 Milwaukee Public Schools and Greater Milwaukee area students are taking part in a six-week educational program at Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE).On Thursday, July 27th, they presented what they learned about the molecular pathways of opioids and their impact on nerves and brain cells.

Marquette celebrates 100 years of men's hoops 1 last time

MILWAUKEE — Marquette celebrated 100 years of men's basketball one last time with a dinner and event that included former players and coaches from the program's storied past.The school says that about 1,000 people attended the event on Friday night at the Bradley Center, which included player and coach panels from every era of the team's history.ESPN basketball analyst and former Duke player Jay Bilas hosted the festivities.
