More than 750 students at 5 Milwaukee schools received new backpacks filled with supplies

MILWAUKEE -- More than 750 Milwaukee students received new backpacks filled with school supplies Friday, Aug. 30.The "AT&T Pioneers" visited five Milwaukee schools to donate the backpacks and school supplies as part of their annual “Tools for Learning” project.Each year, the AT&T Pioneers work to raise money, purchase supplies, and stuff backpacks to help needy students start the school year fully supplied and ready to learn.Members of the AT&T Pioneers from Milwaukee, as well as Pioneers and employees from around the state, donated backpacks and supplies to the following five Milwaukee schools:

MILWAUKEE -- From boxes to heavy lifting, everywhere you looked at Marquette University and Cardinal Stritch University on Thursday, Aug. 22, there was a sign of move-in day.Nearly 2,000 first-year students from 42 states, two U.S. territories, and 10 foreign countries moved into Marquette’s residence halls on Thursday ahead of the start of the 2019-2020 academic year.

Marquette University prohibits dockless scooters on campus property 'effective immediately'

MILWAUKEE -- Marquette University leaders announced on Monday, Aug. 19 they're "prohibiting the use of motorized scooters on campus property, effective immediately."The ban came after the Marquette University Police Department led a thorough review of the impact of dockless scooters on campus safety, officials said.Under the new policy, all motorized scooters — including those operated by companies such as Lime, Bird, and Spin — are banned from use on any campus property, including walkways and sidewalks within the campus.

Columbia Playfield in Milwaukee reopens after major makeover

Former Wisconsin football player Quintez Cephus found not guilty of rape

MADISON -- A jury deliberated for just 30 minutes on Friday, Aug. 2 before former University of Wisconsin wide receiver Quintez Cephus was acquitted on charges alleging that he sexually assaulted two female students.Cephus, 21, was suspended from the football team last August and was expelled from the university earlier this year for violating its non-academic misconduct code.

Woman tells jury ex-UW football player raped her in his home

MADISON — The trial of former University of Wisconsin football player Quintez Cephus began Tuesday with a woman testifying that Cephus raped her in his apartment.Cephus, 21, of Macon, Georgia, is charged with second- and third-degree sexual assault after two 18-year-old women reported to police that he had assaulted them on the same night in April 2018.
