Caught on camera: Semi driver cited after crashing into tow truck near Mitchell Interchange

MILWAUKEE -- A semi driver received two citations after a crash involving a tow truck near the Mitchell Interchange Monday, Aug. 26.It happened shortly after 11 a.m.Officials with the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office said the tow truck driver was on the scene of a separate crash when the semi, headed southbound through the Mitchell Interchange, struck the tow truck.The semi's cab separated from its base after the impact, and the trailer flipped on its side, blocking all three lanes of traffic.The tow truck slammed into the wall, and the driver was trapped in the cab.

MILWAUKEE -- A budget battle could lead to some Milwaukee County Transit System bus routes being cut in 2020, and MCTS drivers sounded off on Monday, Aug. 19.Members of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 998 brought their concerns to Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele's listening session on the proposed 2020 budget.A projected $28 million gap in Milwaukee County’s 2020 budget resulted in the proposed cuts, which include 16 MCTS routes, including lines to specific events like Summerfest and Milwaukee Brewers games.Abele said Milwaukee County has been turning a profit for the state, but every year, less of that money is returned to Milwaukee County."What we send to the state has gone up by about $400 million over the last, say, 10 years, and what we get back has been flat, or in some cases, declining," said Abele."He's saying that they're $28 million in the hole," said James Macon, president of ATU Local 998. ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over:’ Statewide crackdown on drunk driving continues through Labor Day

MILWAUKEE — There will be increased patrols across Wisconsin during the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign that begins Friday, Aug. 16 and continues through Labor Day, Sept. 2.The Wisconsin Department of Transportation utilizes federal funds to support the stepped-up law enforcement efforts and public education and outreach on the dangers of impaired driving.“As we approach the last major holiday of the summer season, we’re asking for the cooperation of all motorists to help us prevent needless tragedies along our roadways by being safe, alert, and responsible every time they travel,” said Craig Thompson, WisDOT secretary-designee, in a news release.According to WisDOT, in 2018 in Wisconsin, alcohol-related crashes resulted in 159 deaths and nearly 3,300 injuries.

United tells pilots no alcohol for 12 hours before flights

NEW YORK -- United Airlines is setting an earlier cut-off time when pilots must stop drinking alcohol before flights.The airline is telling pilots they must abstain from alcohol for 12 hours before flights, up from a previous ban lasting eight hours.The change in the so-called bottle-to-throttle rule comes after two United pilots were arrested in Scotland and charged with suspicion of being under the influence before a flight to the U.S.The old 8-hour limit complied with Federal Aviation Administration rules, which also prohibit pilots from flying with a blood-alcohol content at or above 0.04%.A United Airlines spokesman says the new policy was sent to pilots a week ago and took effect last Saturday.

Milwaukee Co. supervisor condemns MAM, MCTS over what he calls 'racist paid ad' on county bus

MILWAUKEE -- A Milwaukee County supervisor on Monday, Aug. 12 spoke out against a Milwaukee Art Museum sponsored advertisement on a Milwaukee County Transit System bus -- an ad that was designed by young people from Milwaukee and selected by the Milwaukee Art Museum's education department.County Supervisor Dan Sebring in a news release called for the removal of the bus wrap "which depicts Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arresting children, and lists tactics for evading detention by ICE agents." Supervisor Sebring also condemned the actions of the museum and MCTS for "approving the anti-law enforcement message."

Developing: Crash closed all lanes of I-41 northbound in Slinger in Washington County

SLINGER -- A crash closed all lanes of I-41 northbound near Cedar Creek Road in Slinger in Washington County Tuesday night, Aug. 6.The left lane of I-41 southbound was also closed.Deputies were dispatched to the scene around 9:50 p.m. Upon arrival, they observed two people lying on I-41 -- one in traffic and on in a ditch.
