Teachers' union, Republican lawmaker issue warnings as Milwaukee School Board considers failing schools plan

MILWAUKEE -- Republicans and union officials are turning up the pressure on the Milwaukee School Board with five weeks to decide whether the district will go along with a turnaround plan for failing city schools.County Executive Chris Abele and his appointed commissioner, Demond Means, have offered the board a proposal that would give Means control of one yet-unnamed school in the 2016-2017 year.

Baltimore School Board unanimously votes to replace Gregory Thornton, former MPS superintendent

BALTIMORE/MILWAUKEE -- Former Milwaukee Public Schools Superintendent Gregory Thornton is stepping down from his latest job as head of Baltimore Schools.Thornton was there for less than two years.The Baltimore School Board unanimously voted to replace him.Board members said it was a personnel matter, and that Thornton did a good job.The move reportedly has been in the works since December.

Police investigate burglaries at two Milwaukee Public Schools

MILWAUKEE -- Police are investigating burglaries at two Milwaukee Public Schools.One incident happened Sunday, May 1st at Engleburg Elementary School near 91st and Hampton.The other incident happened on April 16th at Lancaster School near 76th and Hampton.Police say the suspects entered the schools, forced entry to several classrooms and stole items from the school, including laptops.No suspects are in custody.

MILWAUKEE -- A teacher's aide from Bay View High School was arrested after an incident in a classroom that was captured on camera.The video, which was shared with the FOX6 News Facebook page on Wednesday, April 20th, shows a physical altercation between a 39-year-old teacher's aide and a 14-year-old student at Bay View High School.
