In a normal year, more than 50,000 MPS students take the bus to and from school each and every day. On Wednesday, that work will resume for the district's contractors and some students to start.

For the first time since March 2020, Milwaukee Public Schools teachers are dusting off their desks, preparing for some students to return to class starting Wednesday. Still, the district continues to receive backlash from the teachers union about its plan. 

With only a few days before the youngest MPS students return, the union said there are some important questions left unanswered.

The state of Wisconsin is set to receive more than $2 billion in federal aid for school districts, with more than a third of it going to Milwaukee Public Schools.

MPS classrooms are limited to between 15 and 18 students upon return. Those who declined, or did not complete the survey, will stay virtual.

More than a year later, Milwaukee Public Schools athletes will finally see some competition as sports return for a spring season but that did not account for the rescheduling of any winter sports. However, the MPS basketball community was able to form a league of its own.

Milwaukee Public Schools is inviting district students and families to attend the Return to the Classroom Virtual Family Engagement Sessions.

MPS families are weighing-in on whether their children will be going back to school in the next few weeks -- the district distributing a survey. 

The Milwaukee Teachers Education Association called the plan a "mess" and said it lacked input from members and frontline workers.

The health department set aside 1,000 doses of the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine, figuring MPS may pivot back to in-person learning.

After more than seven hours of debate, the Milwaukee Public Schools Board voted to approve an amended timeline for a portion of kids to return to in-person learning. A big question following that vote is transportation.
