Neighbors upset over plan for Brookfield quarry

BROOKFIELD (WITI) -- People in the city of Brookfield got a closer look Wednesday night, June 19th at a plan to fill a former quarry with waste from highway construction projects.The area in question is about 85 acres south of Burleigh and east of Lilly Road.Currently, the old quarry is filled with water, and the area is undeveloped.Clean fill from places like the Zoo Interchange Project would fill the area.Once that's done, the area could be developed into housing units.Brookfield's mayor says there's a lot to consider before it's all approved -- and neighbors don't want it."The numbers have been run that we're going to have a truck every four minutes six days a week 12 hours a day bringing a substantial amount of landfill," Brookfield resident Jack Berlinski said."It's not a done deal.

Police examine contents of package at Brookfield business

BROOKFIELD (WITI) -- Brookfield police were called to a business near 124th and Townsend on Tuesday afternoon, May 28th to deal with what appeared to be a suspicious package.The call came after officials say a disgruntled employee, a woman, dropped off a package at the business and claimed it had a dangerous substance inside.Police and fire officials examined the contents of the package and do not believe it is hazardous.About six people at the business left on their own accord as a precaution.

UPDATE: Brookfield man stuck in Costa Rica hospital has died

Mukwonago man to stand trial for Brookfield Subway robbery

WAUKESHA (WITI) -- 30-year-old Salvador Sanchez of Mukwonago will stand trial in the case of a robbery at the Brookfield Subway restaurant.Sanchez has pleaded not guilty to a charge of robbery with a threat of force for allegedly robbing a Town of Brookfield Subway restaurant.The criminal complaint against Sanchez indicates on March 13th, Sanchez walked into the Subway Restaurant just before 10 p.m. The complaint says Sanchez "came in and was charging towards the count." It says Sanchez said, "I'm sorry to do this guys, but give me all your money in the drawer." A restaurant worker told police Sanchez then lifted up his shirt to show off a handgun in his waistband.The complaint says Sanchez "grabbed the majority of the money in the cash drawer with his right hand and left the story, dropped a $5 on the floor near the counter as he fled."A worker told police as Sanchez left the restaurant, he stated, "Thanks guys, have a good night.

Brookfield police investigating armed robbery at Subway

BROOKFIELD (WITI) -- Brookfield police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at the Subway store on Bluemound Road on Wednesday, March 13th, around 10:00 p.m.Police say the suspect entered the restaurant, walked up to the counter and demanded cash.

Gunman wrote special message to loved ones before Azana mass shooting

BROOKFIELD (WITI) -- Information is still being digested after Brookfield police officials on Friday released the final report regarding the shooting at the Azana Salon & Spa in October that left three dead and four injured -- before the gunman turned his weapon on himself.Investigators walked towards the Brown Deer home of a man accused of shooting seven victims.
