RACINE COUNTY (WITI) -- 26-year-old Edward Jordan of Chicago is facing charges, accused of scamming a Racine County cheerleading group.Jordan faces one count of felony theft - movable property (greater than $2,500 - $5,000), and two counts of felony theft - movable property (greater than $5,000 - $10,000).A criminal complaint in the case says Jordan was running a group called "Fierce Wisconsin All Stars Cheerleading," through which he had arranged for a cookie sale fundraiser with the assistance of parents with children involved in the group.The money raised was deposited into a TCF Bank account for the organization, which was controlled by Jordan -- according to the criminal complaint.The complaint says a parent learned via the cookie manufacturer that the check provided to them by Jordan had bounced, and thus, no cookies were to be delivered to customers -- and the people who sold the cookies were out the money.The complaint says bank records showed several withdrawals made from the account that were not for the purchase of cookies.

One person killed in crash near Rochester in Racine Co.
RACINE COUNTY (WITI) -- Officials responded to a crash on Highway 36 and County Highway J near Rochester in Racine County on Thursday evening, June 13th.The crash had all lanes blocked in both directions.Officials say the crash involved two vehicles -- one heading eastbound on County Highway J, and a pickup truck that was headed northbound on State Highway 36.Witnesses advised that one person was ejected from a vehicle and died at the scene.A utility pole was also damaged.

Residents evacuated due to natural gas leak
TOWN OF NORWAY (WITI) -- Authorities were called to the scene of an outdoor natural gas leak the afternoon of Saturday, May 4th in the town of Norway.A caller told the Racine County Communications Center that they had not contacted Digger's Hotline and ended up hitting a natural gas line with an auger.Residents within a one block radius of the leak were evacuated due to safety concerns.Racine County Sheriff's Deputies, Town of Norway Police, Wind Lake and Tichigan Fire Departments, and WE Energies all responded to the scene.Emergency crews have cleared the scene and residents were allowed back in their homes.Six residents will be without gas services while crews work to make permanent repairs to the gas line.Folks are reminded to call Digger's Hotline at 811 before doing any digging projects around their homes.
