DOT hosting public meeting to discuss WIS 11 in Racine County

RACINE COUNTY (WITI) --The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is announcing a public information meeting to discuss preliminary design concepts for the resurfacing/reconstruction of Durand Avenue (WIS 11) from Kentucky Street to Kearney Avenue in the City of Racine. The meeting is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4th at Saint Lucy’s Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Avenue, Racine, WI.

The proposed project will include the reconstruction of the existing roadway from Kentucky Street to

Kearney Avenue, a distance of 1.3 miles. The project includes pavement reconstruction, curb and gutter replacement, landscaping, street lighting, new pavement marking, new signs, new and replacement sidewalk and ADA-compliant curb ramps.

Sidewalk replacement is limited to the areas impacted by proposed roadway improvement. Raised median in lieu of two-way left-turn lane may be proposed wherever possible and is expected to provide opportunity for landscaping and street lighting.

Minor access changes are anticipated. Minor strip right-of-way acquisition is anticipated at spot locations along Durand Avenue and within the vicinity of intersections.

Final design phase is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2013, with construction currently scheduled for the spring of 2017.

The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, provide input, and ask questions concerning this project. Maps showing the proposed improvement alternatives will be on display. WisDOT representatives will be available to discuss the project on an individual basis.
