He escaped from a hotel room filled with marijuana: 30-year-old Racine man wanted by police

MOUNT PLEASANT (WITI) -- Mount Pleasant police say one person is in custody, and another person is wanted by police after a large amount of marijuana, with a street value estimated at $14,000 was recovered from a hotel room.On Tuesday, September 2nd, just before 4:30 p.m., police were called out to the America's Best Value Inn & Suites Hotel on Durand Avenue after employees reported they could detect an odor of marijuana from inside the building.It was suspected the odor was originating from a second-floor hotel room.While officers were responding, they were notified by dispatch that the occupants of the hotel room had broken a second-floor window, and had jumped to the ground.Officers entered the hotel room and discovered a large amount of marijuana.

A tough fire fight: Newspaper carrier sees vacant home on fire in Racine & alerts fire crews

RACINE (WITI) -- Fire officials in Racine say an alert newspaper carrier noticed a vacant home on fire early Sunday morning, August 31st, and called 911.It was around 4:30 a.m. Sunday when the newspaper carrier discovered fire at a home on Racine's near north side.Fire officials responded to the vacant, two-story home in the 1800 block of Geneva Street.There, firefighters encountered compromised floors that eventually burned away in the areas of the first and second floor.Fire officials say due to burned away structural components, portions of walls and floors were observed to have moved as much as 18 inches while crews were on scene.It took about 45 minutes for fire crews to extinguish this fire.No one was injured.Damage is estimated at $50,000.The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

BUSTED! Two Milwaukee men arrested in Racine after deputies find two-and-a-half pounds of marijuana

RACINE (WITI) -- Racine County Sheriff's officials say two men were arrested, and more than two pounds of marijuana were recovered following a traffic stop on Thursday, August 7th.It happened shortly before 10:00 p.m.Sheriff's officials initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle that was headed northbound on I-94.The vehicle was stopped for lane deviation, and improper display of registration.Sheriff's deputies could smell the strong odor of fresh marijuana when making contact with the vehicle, and a subsequent search of the vehicle revealed 1,515.5 grams of marijuana (approximately two-and-a-half pounds).Sheriff's investigators believe the marijuana was being transported from Illinois to Milwaukee.Two men -- ages 24 and 25, both from Milwaukee, are being held at the Racine County Jail on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.

Caledonia police: Four people, including two children, hospitalized after serious, head-on crash

CALEDONIA (WITI) -- Caledonia police say four people, including two children, were taken to the hospital following a serious head-on crash that occurred on Wednesday morning, July 30th.It happened on Highway 38 at Brook Road in the Village of Caledonia just before 8:00 a.m.Police say at least one of the two vehicles involved traveled left of the center line and collided head-on with another vehicle.Police say one vehicle was driven by a 43-year-old woman -- and the other vehicle was driven by a 49-year-old woman.The 49-year-old woman had her two children in the car.All four of the people involved in this crash were taken to the hospital.Police say the 49-year-old woman was later transferred to Froedtert Hospital -- and her two children were taken to Children's Hospital due to the extent of their injuries.This crash remains under investigation.
