"It wouldn't make sense to come later. Later, the destruction is going to be cleaned and you're seeing empty lots," said the owner of B&L Office Furniture in Kenosha.

In June, when "defund the police" became a rallying cry for many of the protesters demanding justice for George Floyd, Joe Biden called for police reform but said he did not support defunding police departments.

Wisconsin Democrats are accusing President Trump of distracting from Kenosha's healing.

According to a news release from the U.S. DOJ, awards will support community-based crime-fighting initiatives, local victim service programs and the hiring and training of law enforcement officers and prosecutors.

Soon after arriving in Kenosha, a visit made over the objections of state and local leaders, President Trump toured the charred remains of a block besieged by violence and fire.

Tensions temporarily rose as Trump’s motorcade rolled by, with his supporters clapping and others booing and cursing. But crowd sizes were modest and passions were mostly tempered.

Trump's lawyers had asked for a temporary stay while they appeal a lower-court ruling that granted Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr.'s office access to Trump's tax returns. A lawyer for Vance's office had argued that further delays would only impede their investigation.

Kenosha's public works director provided the estimate on what it would cost to replace garbage trucks, street lights and traffic signals, among other things that were destroyed or damaged in the unrest tied to the shooting of Jacob Blake.

When asked whether the Blake family would meet with President Trump, LaMarr said, "I'm not really sure what the Blake family would do."

President Trump said Monday he won't be meeting with the family of Jacob Blake -- whose shooting sparked protests, fires and several nights of unrest -- as attorneys for the family were to be involved.

​In one of his sharpest attacks on the president yet, Joe Biden went on to call President Trump a “toxic presence in this nation for four years” and accuse him of “poisoning the values this nation has always held dear, poisoning our very democracy.”

The tension began Aug. 23 after a video showed a Kenosha police officer shooting Blake, a Black man, in the back while responding to a call about a domestic dispute.
