MILWAUKEE — The ACLU of Wisconsin is suing Milwaukee police for what attorneys said was the unlawful arrest of two spectators at a memorial site for Sylville Smith, fatally shot by police in 2016.ACLU attorneys said in the lawsuit filed Wednesday, May 29 that Jarrett English and Benetria McGowan stopped at the memorial for Sylville Smith on Aug. 30, 2016 when police began arresting people after ordering them to disperse.

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police on Wednesday, May 29 asked for help locating two men wanted in connection with a shooting that happened Friday, May 10 near 16th and Hadley that left a 21-year-old man hurt.Police said just before 7 p.m., the victim was sitting in a vehicle in the area when shots were fired, and a bullet entered the vehicle and struck him.The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment.Police described the wanted men as black and between the ages of 18 and 19.

MPD: Possible drug deal leads to gunfire, 19-year-old woman wounded

MCSO: Shots fired during reckless driving investigation in Milwaukee; suspects at large

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee County sheriff's officials were seeking suspects after shots were fired during a reckless driving incident that began near 17th and North Avenue Monday night, May 27.MCSO officials said around 10 p.m., deputies in an unmarked squad noticed the driver of a black Nissan made a left turn through a red light before turning right onto 16th Street -- where several shots were fired from inside the vehicle.The deputies activated their emergency lights, and more rounds were fired from inside the Nissan.With deputies in pursuit, the Nissan fled westbound to an alley between 23rd and 24th Street, where the vehicle was abandoned and the suspects fled on foot.

RACINE COUNTY -- A semi driver was arrested after sheriff's officials said he called 911 to report he could hear "voices" in the walls of his semi Friday morning, May 24.According to the Racine County Sheriff's Office, just after 8 a.m. Friday, deputies responded to the northbound County Highway G exit ramp from I-94 -- where they spoke with the semi driver and initially thought he may be experiencing a mental health crisis.A search of his vehicle revealed open intoxicants, drugs and drug paraphernalia.

RACINE COUNTY -- A Waterford man is facing charges, accused of shooting and killing a dog after it bit him.Jay Hoppe, 51, faces one count of felony mistreatment of animals, use of a dangerous weapon, domestic abuse assessments, and one count of disorderly conduct, domestic abuse assessments.According to a criminal complaint, Hoppe choked and then shot the English Mastiff named Mack at his home on Washington Avenue in Rochester.

MPD: No gun-related homicides for 1st time in 7 years over Memorial Day weekend

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police on Tuesday, May 28 were proud to announce that over the 2019 Memorial Day weekend, the City of Milwaukee had no gun-related homicides, and six non-fatal shootings.According to Milwaukee police, over the previous 14 years, the city averaged 2.1 homicides and 9.7 non-fatal shootings over the holiday weekend.2019 was the first year Milwaukee has not had a gun-related homicide over the Memorial Day weekend in the past seven years.
