Utilities to provide propane to help low-income citizens

MADISON (WITI) -- Governor Scott Walker has announced an agreement between the State of Wisconsin, Madison Gas and Electric (MG&E), and We Energies that will allow the state to access more than 117,000 gallons of propane currently stored at these utilities to help address the current propane shortage.“We are grateful to Madison Gas and Electric and We Energies for helping us address the needs of our citizens in this challenging time, and it is yet another example of the power of public-private partnerships,” Governor Walker said.  “We will use the propane from these companies as a contingency plan to help meet the need of low-income citizens in areas of our state where the supply is constrained.”Under the arrangements with the utilities, the state can access up to 42,000 gallons of propane currently stored at We Energies’ Oak Creek facility, with the possibility of an additional 30,000 gallons from We Energies’ Tomah facility.

We Energies Outage Map shows over 2,000 without power

We Energies to offer refund to customers after exporting power

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee Business Journal says We Energies is planning a refund of $15 million to $18 million for its customers.That's because the coal-fired plants in Oak Creek have been exporting power to other states.The refund will amount to about one-half of one percent of customers' energy bills.It could either involve a credit on customer bills late this year, or it could go toward a discount on a future rate increase.

We Energies tells customers to brace for higher heating bills

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- With record low temperatures hitting hard this winter, We Energies is warning customers to prepare for a nasty January bill -- 35 to 40% higher than last January.The company says the higher prices are due to the fact that more natural gas was deliver to retail customer last month than any other month in their history.It's also the coldest winter yet for Marlene Harow, who moved back to Milwaukee from California."It's been very, very chilling -- especially with the temperature being well below, five below, 10 below, 20 below," said Harow.Like many people her age, Harow relocated to take care of her aging father.

We Energies crews repair ruptured gas line near 35th & Lisbon

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- We Energies crews say they're dealing with a gas service line that was struck near 35th and Lisbon.The gas line was struck just prior to 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 13th.We Energies crews are working to tie off the line, and that's creating the need for a little excavation work.No one has been injured, and there have been no evacuations.Police and fire crews were on the scene -- primarily in an effort to keep people away from the site as We Energies crews worked the scene.

Crash temporarily knocks out power for hundreds in Cudahy

CUDAHY (WITI) -- A crash in Cudahy temporarily knocked out power for hundreds of people early Saturday, November 16th.The crash happened near Whitnall and Layton.We Energies says roughly 3,000 customers were without power; some of them for a few hours.One man suffered serious injuries -- and was taken to the hospital by Flight for Life.No word on what led to the crash. 

Crews respond to fire at We Energies Oak Creek Power Plant

OAK CREEK (WITI) -- 50 people had to be evacuated Tuesday afternoon, October 29th as crews responded to a fire at the Oak Creek We Energies Power Plant.A We Energies spokesman says the incident began just before 3:00 p.m., when officials were working to upgrade two of four generators, and some power to the controls went off-line.That meant fans cooling the equipment stopped working and hot air began to heat and eventually smolder nearby insulation.
