Racine police: Home found shot up near 18th and Franklin, man suffers gunshot wound

RACINE -- Racine police are seeking a suspect in connection with an attempted homicide that happened on Monday night, February 22nd.Police say around 11:45 p.m., officers were called out to the area near 18th and Franklin Street for shots fired.Arriving officers found that a home had been struck multiple times by gunfire.

Upset parent on campus: Students at Knapp Elem. in Racine asked to stay in their classrooms

RACINE -- Racine police say students at Knapp Elementary School were asked to stay in their classrooms for a brief period of time on Tuesday afternoon, February 23rd due to an incident involving a parent at the school who was upset.Police say the parent was raising their voice and expressing concerns to staff at Knapp Elementary following a fight between two students around 2:15 p.m. A Racine Unified School District spokeswoman says this was a case involving a parent who went directly to her child's classroom, instead of signing in at the school.No threat was made -- and there was never any threat to students' safety.It's unclear whether an official "lockdown" occurred at the school, but we do know students were asked to stay in their classrooms for a brief period of time.When the parent calmed down, she was taken to the principal's office, where she then signed in and spoke with the principal.The entire ordeal lasted only about five minutes, we're told.  

Three 17-year-olds arrested following attempted robbery in Racine

RACINE -- Three 17-year-olds were arrested in connection to two attempted burglaries that occurred in the early morning hours of Wednesday, February 17th in Racine.According to the Racine Police Department, officers responded to an attempted burglary call at the Jo Jo's Quick Market located on 16th Street in Racine.

14-year-old Starbuck Middle School student charged, accused of passing medication at school

RACINE -- FOX6 News has learned charges have been filed against a 14-year-old Starbuck Middle School student accused of passing out prescription medication at school last Thursday, January 28th.Five students had to be taken to the hospital, where they were treated and released.Racine County District Attorney Richard Chiapete tells FOX6 News a 10-count juvenile petition was filed in which the 14-year-old was charged with five counts of second-degree recklessly endangering safety and five counts of delivery of a prescription drug.It's unclear what type of medication was allegedly handed out by this student, or where this student may have gotten the medication.Officials were notified of this case around 1:40 p.m. on Thursday.Police said the five students taken to the hospital were between the ages of 13 and 14.

Man arrested, charged in connection with Racine home invasion, sexual assault

RACINE -- A suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with a Racine home invasion during which a 69-year-old woman was sexually assaulted.It happened on Saturday, December 12th shortly before 5:00 a.m. at a home near Martin Luther King Drive and Hamilton Street in Racine.Police say responding officers learned a suspect forcibly entered the home and sexually assaulted the woman.Dexter Swanagan is facing two counts of second degree sexual assault, aggravated battery, burglary to an occupied residence and felony intimidation.DNA evidence led police to Swanagan.Police say Swanagan has been in custody since December 17th due to pending drug charges.Swanagan will be in court on February 3rd for his preliminary hearing in this case.

Racine police: Three teenagers in custody, accused of following, assaulting and robbing two people

RACINE -- Racine police say three teenagers are in custody in connection with a strong-armed robbery/assault that happened on Sunday, January 3rd.Police say shortly before 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, officers were dispatched to the area near Hamilton Street and Superior Street in Racine for a report of a strong-armed robbery/assault.Upon arrival at the scene, officers identified two victims who indicated they were assaulted and robbed of personal belongings.Both victims told police they were followed by three suspects to an area where they were stopped, assaulted and robbed.A female victim indicated her purse was taken.A male victim told police several items were taken from him, including clothing items.Both of these victims said they knew two of the suspects.Two 17-year-old suspects and a 16-year-old suspect were taken into custody at a home.A search warrant was executed at the home, and items taken in the incident were located and identified.

Racine police: Six-year-old girl struck by vehicle near State & Summit; driver in custody

RACINE -- Racine police say a six-year-old girl was hit by a car in Racine on Wednesday afternoon, December 16th.It happened near the intersection of State Street and Summit Avenue around 4:00 p.m.Police say it's believed the girl darted out into traffic.She was taken to the hospital, and is expected to be OK.The driver was taken into custody as a result of the crash.No further details have yet been released.Monitor FOX6 News and FOX6Now.com for updates on this developing story.
