RACINE (AP) — Racine County Sheriff's deputies may have finally solved a cold-case mystery involving the slaying of an Illinois teen 17 years ago.Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling emailed The Journal Times of Racine Saturday, April 5th saying his deputies have arrested a 36-year-old Illinois man.Schmaling says he has "solid, clear and overwhelming evidence" that the suspect was responsible for the death of Amber Creek.

RACINE (WITI) -- Racine County Sheriff's officials have announced the arrest of a 44-year-old Lake County, Illinois resident whom they say was engaging in sexually explicit conversations with a subject he believed to be a 15-year-old boy.The man was arrested on Friday, April 4th.Racine County Sheriff's officials say through the course of the operation, the suspect made arrangements to meet with the juvenile in order to engage in sexual activity.The man traveled to a pre-designated location where he believed he was meeting the juvenile and was subsequently taken into custody by Sheriff’s investigators."I'm very proud of the commitment and hard work my investigative team brings to these very intense and challenging cases.

RACINE (WITI) -- Racine County Sheriff's officials say a traffic stop turned into a major heroin arrest on Wednesday, March 12th.Sheriff's officials initiated the traffic stop on Wednesday afternoon -- just after 12:30 p.m.Officials were stopping a vehicle that was headed northbound on I-94.The vehicle was reportedly stopped for various traffic violations."We're looking beyond the stop, and when we look beyond the stop and start asking more important questions and making observations on the inside of the vehicle, and asking additional questions -- this is the fruit of our labor, if you will," Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling said.A passenger in the vehicle was searched, and 210.3 grams of heroin were discovered on his person.

Two injured in snowmobile crash in Town of Yorkville
RACINE COUNTY (WITI) -- Racine County Sheriff's officials say two people were injured in a snowmobile crash on Sunday, January 26th.It happened near Spring Street and 61st Drive in the Town of Yorkville.Sheriff's officials say the crash site was located about a half-mile from the nearest road.An initial investigation revealed the snowmobile was traveling southwest across a farm field and did not stop for a large drainage canal.Officials say the snowmobile flew approximately 35 feet, landing in the bottom of the canal nearly 20 feet down.Officials say the snowmobile was not being operated on a marked snowmobile trail.Both of those injured were taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.It was determined that alcohol was a factor in this crash.The snowmobile operator was cited for intoxicated operation of a snowmobile as well as causing injury by intoxicated operation of a snowmobile.The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

RACINE (WITI) -- The Racine County Sheriff's Office has identified the body of a 58-year-old man pulled from the water at ReefPoint Marina in Racine on Sunday, October 20th.The man is identified as Richard Franzese of Hoffman Estates, Illinois.Officials say while the investigation into this case is ongoing, "everything thus far appears to be consistent with an accidental drowning."
