Waukesha man crashes car after high-speed chase in Racine Co.

RACINE COUNTY (WITI) -- Racine County Sheriff's officials on Wednesday, March 19th responded to a crash that occurred on the off-ramp from northbound I-94 to 27th Street in Racine County.

Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling says it all started with a driver traveling at a high rate of speed (95 mph) on I-94. Deputies tried to pull him over, but he wouldn't stop, and a chase ensued.

The driver tried exiting at 27th Street, and crashed.

Schmaling says deputies asked the 44-year-old Waukesha man to exit his vehicle -- and say the man ran into a wooded area away from deputies.

Officials chased the man on foot, and he was eventually apprehended by a K9 officer.

Schmaling says the driver is believed to have been impaired, and does not have a driver's license.

He suffered minor injuries.

The man has been booked into the Racine County Jail on charges of 5th OWI, fleeing and eluding, operating while revoked (third offense) and resisting arrest.
