'God is with us' -- A symbol of hope found among tornado debris in Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (WITI) -- As a tornado barreled through south Oklahoma City and Moore on Wednesday evening, March 25th, many residents were seeking shelter.After the storm passed, many of those residents realized the extent of the damage done to their property and neighborhoods.While damage and debris is usually a disheartening sight, some people are finding hope in a broken power pole.

Colfax tornado causes more than $1 million in damage to schools & athletic complex

COLFAX (AP) — A weak tornado that struck last week caused more than $1 million in damage to Colfax schools and the district's athletic complex.The Chippewa Herald reports the tornado touched down briefly twice Friday before reaching the building housing the elementary, middle and high schools.Besides causing significant roof damage to the building, the tornado also took out two storage sheds in the athletic complex as well as damaging fences, dugouts, bleachers, grounds and trees.A couple of big vent covers were ripped off the school roof, leaving holes for rain to pour into the building.

Severe weather price tag: Two tornadoes cause $10 million worth of damage in Dane Co.

DANE COUNTY (WITI) -- The Wisconsin Emergency Operations Center says 158 homes were damaged when two tornadoes touched down in Dane County early Tuesday, June 17th.The first touched down around 12:10 a.m. in Dane County in Verona, southwest of Madison.That tornado was an EF3 -- with esimated peak wind speeds around 140 mph.The National Weather Service says numerous structures sustained minor to severe damage -- including an elementary school.The second tornado touched down around 12:20 a.m. in Dane County in the city of Madison.That tornado was an EF-2 -- with estimated peak wind speed around 120 mph.The National Weather Service says trees and power lines were down, and there was some structural damage.The Wisconsin Emergency Operations Center says 12 businesses were damaged during these storms.Dane County Emergency Management reports $10 million in damage to homes and businesses, and over $4 million in damage to roads and debris removal.
