RACINE (WITI) -- The death of a 14-year-old girl is bringing many issues to the forefront in Racine. 14-year-old Lexi Lopez took her own life over the weekend -- and now, kids at Racine's Horlick High School are mobilizing to start "The Lexi Project" -- meant to tackle the issues of bullying and sexuality.A memorial of stuffed animals and balloons marks the corner where Lexi Lopez lived.

Two Racine men arrested following pursuit, crash

RACINE (WITI) -- Racine police say two Racine men were arrested following a pursuit on Thursday, December 12th.Police say officers initiated a traffic stop in the 1100 block of Mound Avenue due to the odor of THC emitting from the vehicle and traffic violations observed by the officers.Police say the suspect vehicle initially pulled over, but as officers approached on foot, the vehicle fled.Officers then initiated a vehicle pursuit lasting a few blocks, which was later terminated.Police say the offending vehicle continued through the neighborhood after officers stopped pursuing.A short time later, officers discovered a three-vehicle crash on Kinzie near Graham.Officers learned the suspect vehicle fled through the neighborhood and returned to Kinzie Avenue, where it headed westbound, crossed the center line and struck another vehicle being operated by a 48-year-old Racine woman.Police say the suspect vehicle then struck a tree.The vehicle struck by the suspect vehicle struck another vehicle, operated by a 22-year-old Racine woman.Both suspects exited the offending vehicle, and police say the passenger, 24-year-old Thadeus Reed of Racine fled on foot and was captured in a nearby home.Police say the driver, 20-year-old Alberto Galvan attempted to flee the scene by stealing the 22-year-old victim's vehicle, but was taken into custody by police.The 48-year-old woman received life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital and later flown to Froedtert.Galvan and Reed were seriously injured.

Owners seek dog lost during massive pileup on I-94 in Racine

RACINE (WITI) -- FOX6 News has learned a dog was ejected from a vehicle during Sunday's massive pileup incident on I-94 at Highway 20 in Racine -- and the dog's owners are now seeking the dog's whereabouts.FOX6 News spoke with the husband of the owner of the dog, whose contact information is listed on a "lost dog" poster being distributed.

Milw. man arrested after gun goes off inside Burlington Coat Factory

Two charged in Racine armed robbery, shooting incident

RACINE (WITI) -- Two suspects accused in an armed robbery and shooting that occurred on Monday night, December 2nd in Racine have now been charged in the case.The suspects are identified as 16-year-old Damario Redmond of Racine, and 21-year-old Maurice Smith of Waterford.Redmond is charged with one count of attempted first degree intentional homicide, use of a dangerous weapon, one count of armed robbery, one count of attempted armed robbery, one count of possession of a firearm (adjudged delinquent) and one count of first degree recklessly endangering safety (use of a dangerous weapon).Racine police say due to the severity of the charges against him, Redmond will be seen in adult court.A criminal complaint against Redmond indicates police were dispatched to Sixteenth Street Foods in Racine for a shooting just after 3:00 p.m. on Monday, December 2nd.Officers made contact with the store's owner, who reported the store had been robbed by two black males wearing hooded sweatshirts, masks and black gloves.The complaint indicates Redmond was armed with a handgun.The complaint says Redmond ordered a 40-year-old white man to the floor and pointed the gun at the store owner's face, and began demanding money.

Seven-year-old boy suffers severe injury in Racine dog attack

RACINE (WITI) -- Racine police say a child and his mother were injured after they were bitten by a dog on Friday, November 22nd.Police say they were dispatched to a home in the 2800 block of 16th Street around 5:00 p.m. Friday.Police say a seven-year-old boy was playing with his cousin, and the noise of their playing reportedly upset a dog -- and the dog attacked the boy.The boy's mother and a man at the home pulled the dog off the child, and the boy's mother received a puncture wound to her hand.The boy suffered severe damage to his right forearm.

Racine man faces fourth OWI conviction in five years

RACINE (WITI) -- 64-year-old Albert Stinson of Racine has been charged in connection with his fourth OWI offense in five years.Stinson faces the following charges: OWI (fourth offense in five years), operating a motor vehicle while revoked (OWI related) and failure to install ignition interlock device.Stinson was pulled over on Sunday, November 17th after an officer saw him swerving, according to a criminal complaint int he case.Stinson told an officer he had not been drinking, and said he was coming from a friend's house where he had watched a football game, according to the complaint.An officer noticed Stinson was driving while revoked, and did not have an ignition interlock device installed.

Officials respond to collapse of building's facade in Racine

RACINE (WITI) -- A Racine Police Department spokeswoman says no one was injured when a building's facade collapsed on Sunday, November 17th.It happened at 3025 Washington Avenue in Racine around 4:00 p.m.Officials say a car was totaled after it was struck by falling bricks.The cause remains under investigation -- but officials say Sunday's bad weather may have played a role.The building was built in 1920.
