Four Brown Deer Middle School students could face charges over alleged "sex party"

BROWN DEER (WITI) -- Police are investigating an incident involving four Brown Deer Middle School students and an alleged "sex party" that occurred at a home over the winter holiday break.We're told several middle school students were questioned, and four students could face charges via Milwaukee County's juvenile justice system.The incident apparently came to light when a student told a staff member at Brown Deer Middle School about the "sex party." The alleged party did not occur on school grounds.We're told incidents occurring at the party may have been recorded by students using their smartphones.Charges have been referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.

Police: Vehicle stolen in carjacking recovered, suspects sought

Saying goodbye: Brown Deer Police Chief Steven Rinzel retiring after more than 40 years of service

BROWN DEER (WITI) -- He has served for more than 40 years, and at the end of this week, Brown Deer's Police Chief will say goodbye.Chief Steven Rinzel is retiring at the end of the week.Rinzel says it's gotten harder to work 60-hour weeks at the age of 64, but he says he's loved working in the community.He says now, it's time to give someone else a chance to serve."There comes a point in time when you understand it's time to turn around and do something else in your life, and give someone else an opportunity to come in and do the same job that I've done for a long time," Chief Rinzel said.Rinzel says he'll be using his free time to help take care of his three grandsons.

NO THREAT: Lockdown lifted at Brown Deer Middle, High Schools

BROWN DEER (WITI) -- Brown Deer Middle and High Schools were placed under lockdown on Thursday afternoon, May 1st.Brown Deer School District Superintendent Deb Kerr says the lockdown was a precaution -- after a posting was discovered on Facebook that caused concern.The post, which was discovered around 1:15 p.m., contained prayers and thoughts for an alleged shooting that had already taken place at the school.As a result of the investigation, it was determined that the information posted was misinterpreted by the social media poster.

Brown Deer police officer retires after 35 years on the job

BROWN DEER (WITI) -- There was a celebration in Brown Deer on Wednesday, January 8th for a Brown Deer police officer retiring after 35 years.Ted Kern is a patrol officer with the Brown Deer Police Department and has been keeping the community safe since 1979.On Wednesday, the police department hosted a ceremony to help him kick off his retirement -- complete with a cake.FOX6 News had the chance to talk with Officer Kern about what inspired him to become a police officer."I was just inspired by shows like Adam-12 and the writings of Joseph Wambaugh's 'The New Centurions' that made police work sound interesting," Kern said.Kern says it has been an honor to work with such great people in such a great community.
