Life in prison for Daniel Tate, convicted of strangling 17-year-old girl he met online, dumping her body

KENOSHA COUNTY -- A Kenosha man has been sentenced to life in prison in connection with the death of Olivia Mackay, 17, of Kenosha.Daniel Tate, 20, of Kenosha was found guilty by a jury in June -- convicted on three counts: first degree intentional homicide, as party to a crime, hiding a corpse, as party to a crime and take and drive vehicle without consent, as party to a crime.In court on Monday, Aug. 20, Tate was sentenced to serve life in prison on the homicide conviction, seven-and-a-half years in prison and five years extended supervision on the hiding a corpse conviction and three years in prison and three years extended supervision on the vehicle conviction -- to be served consecutively, with credit for 383 days time served.His co-defendant, Jamari Cook, 18, of Kenosha in July pleaded guilty to two charges: hiding a corpse, as party to a crime, and take and drive vehicle without consent, as party to a crime.He will be sentenced on Sept. 17.

2 years probation for boy, 17, charged in connection to Snapchat threat that shut down Indian Trail Academy

KENOSHA -- One of two teenagers charged in connection with a threat that was made to Indian Trail High School and Academy in February has been sentenced to probation.Lozamar Alexis Jr., 17, of Kenosha on Wednesday, July 18 pleaded guilty to three amended charges -- computer message/threaten injury or harm (as party to a crime), resisting or obstructing an officer and disorderly conduct.He was then placed on probation for two years.

'Life or death situation:' Brother, sister charged in fatal 2016 shooting in Kenosha convicted, set for sentencing

KENOSHA COUNTY -- A brother and sister charged in connection with the death of Michael Gayan, whose body was found in Kenosha on July 26, 2016 have been convicted.Derrick Matthews, 57, on Monday, July 16 pleaded guilty to one count of second degree intentional homicide, as party to a crime.His sister, Donna Matthews, 52, was found guilty by a jury on July 10, convicted of first degree intentional homicide, as party to a crime, use of a dangerous weapon.Donna Matthews will be sentenced on Aug. 31.

Kenosha man turns himself in after fatal hit-and-run, stepfather says he 'doesn't have a car!'

KENOSHA -- A 29-year-old Kenosha man turned himself in on Monday, July 9 after a hit-and-run crash involving a motorcycle on Sunday evening -- but his family members say there's an important question detectives should be asking that could clear him in this case.Kenosha police and fire personnel responded to the crash involving a motorcycle and a Chevy Blazer SUV just after 9 p.m. Sunday in the area near 75th Street and Green Bay Road.

Kenosha police warn of release of convicted sex offender, who will be homeless

KENOSHA -- Kenosha police are warning of the release of a convicted sex offender -- who will be homeless upon his release into the community on July 25.According to police, John Stary III (Jack Stary is his alias) was convicted of first degree sexual assault of a child in 1999, and he targeted minor females.He will be on GPS monitoring through the Wisconsin Department of Corrections upon his release on July 25, and he'll be required to check in daily with his DOC agent.He must also register with the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry for life.Stary, 55, is described as a man, white, standing 5'8" tall and weighing 153 pounds.

Police: Milwaukee girl, 17, in custody in connection with homicide, arson in Kenosha

KENOSHA -- The Kenosha Police Department announced Monday, June 11 that they have taken a 17-year-old girl from Milwaukee into custody in connection with a homicide and house fire that happened early Tuesday morning, June 5.The victim, whose identity is still being confirmed through the State Crime Lab, sustained gunshot wounds before the house was intentionally set on fire.The fire happened at a home on the corner of 14th Avenue, just north of 78th Street.

Police: Man stabbed near North Pier in Kenosha

KENOSHA -- Kenosha police say an adult male was stabbed on 51st Place near North Pier on the lakefront on Wednesday, May 30.Officials say the stabbing happened around 5 p.m. It appears to be related to a domestic dispute.There is no word on the seriousness of the injury -- and no word on whether victim was transported.Officials say one person is in custody.
