Milwaukee firefighters battle house fire near 57th and Wright

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee firefighters respond to a house fire near 57th and Wright on Thursday, Jan. 16.Officials say nobody was in the building at the time emergency crews arrived on the scene.Fire officials do not yet know the cause of the fire -- or the estimated damage.This is a developing story.

MFD: 10 displaced by fire at apartment building near 79th and Hampton

MILWAUKEE -- Ten people were displaced by a fire at an apartment building near 79th Street and Hampton Avenue Saturday, Jan. 11.It happened just after 3 p.m.Officials with the Milwaukee Fire Department said five adults and five children were displaced.No one was hurt.Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire fairly quickly, officials said.The cause was under investigation.Officials with the American Red Cross said volunteers responded to help these displaced residents, and also, a family of five in Kenosha -- put out of their home on Horton Road Saturday afternoon.

MFD: Milwaukee DPW salt truck rolled near 114th and Mill; driver injured

MILWAUKEE -- A City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works salt truck rolled over near 114th Street and Mill Road Saturday morning, Jan. 11.Officials with the Milwaukee Fire Department said the driver had to be extricated and taken to the hospital for treatment.The crash happened shortly before 9 a.m. when the truck was traveling southbound on 114th Street to service the road.A spokesman with the DPW said this was the first pass-through for salting and the roadway "would've been especially slick."PHOTO GALLERYThe extent of the driver's injuries wasn't immediately clear.

Officials: 1 found dead in fire near Locust and Richards

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner was called to the scene of a fatal fire near Locust and Richards on Thursday afternoon.Officials say an adult male was found dead on the second floor of a home, but it is not known if the man died as a result of the fire.Authorities are investigating the cause, but say there were no working smoke detectors and that the inside of the home is uninhabitable.

1 injured after car crashes into Dollar Tree near Holton and Capitol

MILWAUKEE -- A car crashed into a Dollar Tree store near Holton and Capitol in Milwaukee's Riverwest neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.According to the Milwaukee Fire Department, the incident occurred around 2 p.m. One person at the scene was taken to the hospital for treatment.Officials have not announced what prompted the crash.PHOTO GALLERY

Officer among 5 hurt when pursuit of reckless driver ended in crash near Fond du Lac and North

MILWAUKEE -- A police pursuit ended in a crash near Fond du Lac Avenue and North Avenue Friday night, Dec. 13 -- and five people were hurt, including a Milwaukee police officer, who suffered minor injuries.Police said shortly before 8 p.m., a marked squad attempted to stop a reckless driver near 24th Street and Chambers Street, and the driver fled.The pursuit ended with a crash near Fond du Lac and North -- where four people in the vehicle being pursued suffered minor injuries.The officer and the four others were all taken to the hospital.Police said an investigation was ongoing.PHOTO GALLERY

Police: 2 children among 'several' hurt in crash near 49th and Villard; 2 drivers cited

MILWAUKEE -- Two children and one adult were injured and taken to the hospital after a crash near 49th Street and Villard Avenue in Milwaukee, Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 11, according to the Milwaukee Fire Department.Milwaukee police said it happened just after 4 p.m. when a vehicle struck another after the driver of the striking vehicle turned north in front of the other vehicle.Police said "several people" were transported to the hospital with serious injuries, and two of those were juveniles.The driver of the striking vehicle received a citation, and the driver of the second vehicle received three citations, police said.The Milwaukee Fire Department was called to the scene around 4:15 p.m. The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.PHOTO GALLERY
