TSA discovers gun at Mitchell International Airport; Cedarburg man cited

MILWAUKEE -- The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) found a firearm in a passenger's carry-on bag at a security screening checkpoint at Milwaukee's Mitchell International Airport on Wednesday, Oct. 31.Officials say the Ruger handgun was discovered during an X-ray screening of the passenger's carry-on bag.The passenger, a Cedarburg man, received a citation for "presenting a weapon at a screening station."The citation indicates the passenger was set to fly on a United Airlines plane to Newark/Liberty Airport when the handgun was located as the carry-on went through the TSA screening.

Passengers evacuated after fire on Amtrak train at Mitchell Airport

MILWAUKEE -- Passengers on board an Amtrak train were evacuated Tuesday evening, Oct. 30 at Mitchell International Airport as a result of a fire.Amtrak officials said around 7:10 p.m., the battery box on the Amtrak Hiawatha #339 from Chicago to Milwaukee carrying 210 passengers caught on fire.

4 donation boxes installed at Mitchell Airport, where you can donate spare change to help the homeless

MILWAUKEE -- Travelers using General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee can take the spare change out of their pockets and put it to work fighting homelessness, thanks to four new donation boxes, Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele announced Tuesday, July 10.According to a news release, the new boxes, located outside and past the security checkpoints at Concourses C and D, are in place to collect donations in support of Milwaukee County's "Housing First" endowment.

MILWAUKEE -- A Milwaukee County Board committee on Monday, May 14 approved a proposal that would allow people to donate to the homeless at General Mitchell International Airport.According to a news release from Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele's office, donations would be collected near security checkpoints, and would "aid in Milwaukee County's fight against homelessness.The proposal was approved by the board's Economic and Community Development Committee Monday via a unanimous vote.“I am grateful that the committee gave its support to this creative solution that can make a real difference in fighting homelessness.
