2nd woman accused of abusing Racine group home resident appears in court after warrant issued

RACINE -- A second woman charged in connection with the abuse of a group home resident in Racine in March that was caught on camera was in court Wednesday, Sept. 4 for her initial appearance, after a warrant was issued for her arrest in August.Idella Anderson, 40, of Racine, faces one count of intentionally abusing resident, causing bodily harm, as party to a crime, and one count of disorderly conduct, filed Aug. 14.Prosecutors said the owner of the group home identified Anderson and Yolanda Williams, 48, employees of Love of Caring LLC, as those responsible for the abuse.

Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office warns of Social Security phone scam

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) warned all residents on Wednesday, Sept. 4 about a phone scam in which callers are posing as Social Security Administration employees.If you have received or believe you have received one of these fraudulent calls, the MCSO indicates you should report the calls to the Social Security Administration Office of the Inspector General at 1-800-269-0271 or online at oig.ssa.gov/report.Officials say the phone numbers scammers use mirror actual numbers -- it is a concept referred to as "spoofing." Spoofing occurs when a caller deliberately falsifies the information transmitted to your caller ID display to disguise their identity.

YouTube to pay $170M fine after violating kids' privacy law

WASHINGTON — Google will pay $170 million to settle allegations its YouTube video service collected personal data on children without their parents' consent.The company agreed to work with video creators to label material aimed at kids and said it will limit data collection when users view such videos, regardless of their age.Some lawmakers and children's advocacy groups, however, complained that the settlement terms aren't strong enough to rein in a company whose parent, Alphabet, made a profit of $30.7 billion last year on revenue of $136.8 billion, mostly from targeted ads.Google will pay $136 million to the Federal Trade Commission and $34 million to New York state, which had a similar investigation.
