Hazmat unit called out to UPS facility on S. 6th in Oak Creek

OAK CREEK (WITI) -- A Milwaukee Fire Department official confirmed with FOX6 News it deployed a hazardous materials unit to the UPS facility on S. 6th Street in Oak Creek on Friday night, April 4th.An Oak Creek Police official says nothing dangerous was found -- and said deploying the hazmat unit was a precautionary measure.Police say the call came in just before 6:00 p.m., and crews left the facility just before 11:00 p.m.Police say the incident is being investigated as a "suspicious circumstances" call -- and police continue to investigate.Work operations were not interrupted by the investigation.

Home on N. 40th Street a total loss after fire Saturday night

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee Fire officials on Saturday night, responded to a "significant" fire in the 5900 block of N. 40th Street.The fire broke out just after 11:00 p.m.Fire officials say there was one person inside the home at the time, and that person was able to get out okay.

One person killed after car strikes tree in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Officials with the Milwaukee Fire Department confirm for FOX6 News that one person was killed after a car struck a tree near 60th and Bobolink early Sunday, March 9th.Officials say the person was trapped inside the vehicle and needed to be cut out of it.

Firefighters battle house fire near 38th & Rohr in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee firefighters battled a house fire near 38th and Rohr on the city's north side late morning on Friday, March 7th.Ironically, Milwaukee firefighters were conducting training near the house that caught fire when the 911 calls started to come in.The firefighters participating in the training were able to see smoke coming from the home and also observed children climbing and/or jumping out of a second-floor window on to a first-floor overhang.The children were then able to climb off the overhang down to the ground and to safety.Everyone got out of the building safely.The cause of the fire remains undetermined.

Henley sentenced to three years for attack on fire captain

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The man accused of attacking a captain inside a Milwaukee firehouse was sentenced to three years in prison and another three years of extended supervision on Friday, March 7th.46-year-old Rozono Henley of Milwaukee pleaded guilty in January to an incident at the Engine 16 fire house on Fond du Lac Ave.According to the criminal complaint, Henley entered the Engine 16 fire house early September 28th.Capt.

Hazmat Team called to Jackson Park pool for chlorine spill

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee Fire Department on Thursday evening, February 20th called in its hazardous materials team to Jackson Park pool's control building, located near 43rd and Oklahoma for what was reported as a chlorine spill.A MFD deputy chief says the spill occurred when a worker inside the pool building stepped on a pail of chlorine - causing it to spill.That worker and another worker left the building, and transported themselves to a hospital for medical treatment.Fire crews were dispatched just after 4:00 p.m., and were finished cleaning up by 6:15 p.m.The incident began around 3:30 p.m.Monitor FOX6 News and FOX6Now.com for updates on this developing story.

Complaints against suspended firefighters detail vandalism at Engine House 32

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- FOX6 News is learning more about the vandalism that occurred in Milwaukee Fire Department Engine House 32 in the fall of 2013 -- and the five firefighters that were suspended as a result of an investigation into that vandalism.In this case, nine firefighters were immediately placed on suspension during an investigation.Eventually, five firefighters were suspended, two probationary firefighters were fired, and two firefighters will keep their jobs as long as they complete a special program.

Portion of warehouse collapses near 76th and Brown Deer Road

BROWN DEER (WITI) -- The Milwaukee Fire Department responded to the partial collapse of a warehouse on Monday evening, February 17th.It happened in the 8800 block of N. 76th Street (76th and Brown Deer Road).The fire department was notified of the collapse just after 6:00 p.m. Monday.Multiple fire department crews were on the scene, and officials say at this time, it does not appear that anyone was injured or trapped.Fire officials eventually left the building in the hands of police - who were waiting on the building inspector to arrive.There is no word on a cause for the collapse at this time.Monitor FOX6 News and FOX6Now.com for updates on this developing story.

Internal investigation of firefighter vandalism concluded

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- An internal investigation of five Milwaukee firefighters accused of vandalizing their own firehouse has concluded.In a statement released Friday, February 14th, the fire chief cited that most, if not all, members responsible for the fire department vandalism have left and are not subject to discipline.

Two firefighters accused of vandalizing fire house will keep jobs

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Two of the Milwaukee firefighters accused of vandalizing Engine House 32 (near 30th and Vliet) will keep their jobs.David Krebsbach and Robert Rutley were both suspended for five days without pay, but they only had to serve two, as long as they completed a special program.One admitted to hanging up inappropriate signs, and the other to bringing pornography to the station.Sources say the firefighters from Engine 32 at 30th and Vliet were upset about the sudden retirement of their captain and a decision to break up their group.As payback, sources say the firefighters vandalized the station — targeting co-workers they did not like.Sources say the firefighters defecated on personal equipment, urinated on lockers and threw a dead mouse into a locker.The Milwaukee Fire Department's Board of Investigation recommended five other firefighters be fired for their behavior.Two probationary firefighters were also let go.They presented the Fire and Police Commission with a petition containing 1,253 signatures to get their jobs back -- but a Milwaukee Fire Department Administrator told FOX6 News the decision to dismiss the two involved consideration of their entire probationary term, including the alleged vandalism for which they were present.The Administrator says the department is adhering to that decision.Related stories:
