MFD's hazmat team, DNR officials called out to 12th & Pierce for mercury leak

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Fire Department's hazmat team was called out to the area near 12th and Pierce in Milwaukee on Tuesday evening, December 1st for a mercury leak.The call for this incident came in around 5:00 p.m.MFD officials tell FOX6 News this was a minor leak -- and the scene was turned over to Department of Natural Resources officials for cleanup.Because this leak was minor, hazmat officials didn't have to intervene with the cleanup.It is not believed anyone was injured as a result of this incident.It's unclear what led to the leak.Monitor FOX6 News and FOX6Now.com for updates on this developing story.

Fire breaks out in second story of home on Milwaukee's south side

Warm Up Winter: MFD kicks off project to provide new winter coats for students in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE -- Some students in Milwaukee will be bundled up warm for the winter, and they have firefighters and you to thank for it.Milwaukee firefighters have been raising money throughout the year to support the "Warm Up Winter" campaign.This past June alone, Milwaukee residents helped the Milwaukee Fire Department raise nearly $115,000.With the money, MFD has purchased new winter coats, which will be handed out to students at 18 schools in the city this year.A kickoff for the project was held Monday, November 9th at Forest Home Avenue School.

Firefighters battle possible arson fire at home near 26th & Highland; five left homeless

Man dies after being pulled from Lake Michigan at McKinley Marina

MILWAUKEE -- A man drowned in Lake Michigan near Milwaukee's McKinley Marina early Sunday morning, November 1st.The Milwaukee Fire Department's dive rescue team was called out to the scene around 2:30 a.m.Officials with the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office tell FOX6 News they were dispatched shortly after 3:30 a.m.We're told the man was wearing a Halloween costume when he went into the water.Once in the water, the man said: "I cannot swim," and fishermen nearby tried to pull the man from the water, officials with the Milwaukee Fire Department say.

MILWAUKEE -- The American Red Cross on Tuesday night, October 27th was called out to assist after a fire on Servite Drive in Milwaukee.We're told this fire may have involved a vent fan in a bathroom.No injuries have been reported at this time.It is unclear whether anyone has been displaced -- but Red Cross volunteers were responding to the scene.The Red Cross said on Twitter earlier Tuesday volunteers were also dispatched to a fire scene in Oconomowoc, and a fire on Lisbon in Milwaukee.

MFD: Firefighter hit by debris, suffers minor injury while battling fire at home near 37th & Scott

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Fire Department officials tell FOX6 News a firefighter suffered a minor injury while battling a fire on Monday afternoon, October 19th.The fire happened near 37th and Scott in Milwaukee around 2:30 p.m.MFD officials say the fire started in the attic of a two-and-a-half-story wood frame home, and caused an estimated $53,000 dollars in damage.No one was home at the time of the fire, and no one has been displaced, as the home is being remodeled.The cause of the fire is under investigation.The firefighter who was injured was hurt by falling debris, MFD officials say.
