BROOKFIELD (WITI) -- The Honor Guard consists of soldiers who's service ends only at the cemetery -- those who continue to serve in uniform into their Golden Years.The Honor Guard is a unit of retired soldiers whose mission has changed from defending their nation to bearing witness at the burials of those who also served.FOX6's Mike Lowe profiles the Honor Guard out of American Legion Post 449 in Brookfield.

Focus on women who served during 148th Memorial Day parade

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The focus of the 148th consecutive Memorial Day parade in Milwaukee was those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country -- specifically women who have served in the military.The "Donut Dollies" served during the Vietnam and Korean wars.Diane Shufelt was one of about 600 Donut Dollies serving in the Vietnam War."We ran recreation centers and put on recreation programs for U.S. service men," Shufelt said.The parade also honored women currently serving."There`s a lot of contributions that women in the military have made past and present and sometimes we just don`t get the recognition that some of our male counterparts do.

Thousands turn out for St. Patrick's Day bar crawl

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police say the rainy and chilly weather worked in their favor.Police say the weather kept people on the Shamrock Shuffle bar crawl inside the bars on Saturday, rather than outside on the streets.Fox 6 tagged along with officers as they popped by Water Street bars, making sure rules were being followed.“Make sure you’re not going above capacity,” Officer Adam Bradley warned one bouncer.Outside the bars, officers tried to keep the increasingly drunken crowd safe from themselves.“People stopping and blocking the sidewalks, running against traffic,  getting hit by cars and fighting,” said Bradley.As of 10 p.m. on Saturday, officers were handing out mostly municipal citations, for problems like fighting or disorderly conduct.Earlier in the day, the Shamrock Shuffle overtook North Avenue, too.
