Milwaukee area hotels offer special St. Patrick's Day deals

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- When it comes to St. Patrick's Day safety, we usually think of free bus or cab rides. But starting this year, hotels in the Milwaukee area are getting in on the act.

A dozen Milwaukee hotels are offering special packages this weekend designed to keep revelers of the roads. Mark Johnson, President of the Greater Milwaukee Hotel & Lodging Association, says he was approached last month by the Southeast Wisconsin OWI Task Force.

"We brought it to our board of directors and we thought it was a great cause and we voted to participate and we sent out notices to all of our members," Johnson said.

The association includes about 30 hotels. About a dozen of which is offering St. Patrick's Day specials for this weekend. That includes Johnson's hotel, the Best Western and Mitchell Airport.

"For ours, you get a room, two mugs of green beer, we have corned beef and cabbage specials," he said.

The hotel owners hope it's a win-win: something that benefits area businesses while also making roads a bit safer.
