MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A prayer service was held on Thursday, June 13th on the Marquette University campus to remember Andrew Keith Carr -- a MU student who passed away on June 10th while studying in Rome.Carr was a junior studying operations and supply chain management in the College of Business Administration, who was frequently on the dean’s list for his academic performance.

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The 2013-2014 Milwaukee Public Schools budget approved Tuesday night, June 11th will bring 45 additional art, music and physical education teacher and librarian positions into MPS schools.Art will see the biggest boost between 2012-13 and the upcoming 2013-14 school year under the plan, growing by about 25 full-time teaching positions.

Three MPS seniors named Gates Millennium Scholars
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Three Milwaukee Public Schools seniors are among just 1,000 nationwide to be named Gates Millennium Scholars this year, an honor that translates into a “good-through-graduation” scholarship to the college of each student’s choice paying for 100% of students’ unmet need.The scholarships also provide funding graduate school if students opt to pursue graduate degrees in computer science, education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health or science.All three MPS students worked with their school counselors – led by guidance directors Natalie Anderson at Riverside and Brian Schneider at South Division – as well as College Possible Milwaukee, a program dedicated to making college admission and success possible for low-income students through intensive coaching and support.Gates Millennium Scholar Mayra Alaniz is a student at MPS’ South Division High School who will be attending Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Scholar Jessica Curry, a student at MPS’ Riverside University High School, will attend the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
