MPS decides not to move forward with 1 instructional calendar for 2018-19 school year

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Public Schools announced on Thursday, Jan. 18 the decision has been made to not move forward with a proposal for one instructional calendar for the 2018-19 school year -- and instead propose two calendars.In a video posted to YouTube, MPS Superintendent Darienne Driver stated, "The plan to move all schools to one early start calendar started as idea that we felt would help improve student success, provide more opportunities for growth, and be financially responsible."However, based on feedback, the school district is not moving forward with that proposal for the next school year.

Power out: No school at Rufus King International H.S. on Thursday; classes resume Friday

MILWAUKEE -- There was no school on Thursday, Jan. 11 at Rufus King International High School in Milwaukee -- due to a power outage.Officials said students who take the bus to school would be bused home.An MPS spokesman said school will be in session Friday, Jan. 12.He indicated one of the three primary electrical feeds that provides power to the building unexpectedly failed, which caused a significant outage in the school.

Agent arrested, accused of taking photos in women's bathroom

MADISON — University of Wisconsin police say they've arrested a federal agent for taking photos in a women's restroom at a residence hall.Authorities say the 27-year-old man went into the bathroom at Witte Hall on Friday and put his cell phone under an occupied stall and took pictures.
