RacineTMZ: Family of six pulled from boat suffering engine trouble in Racine Harbor

RACINE -- Officials with the "RacineTMZ" Facebook page on Saturday afternoon, July 9th posted photos of a rescue that took place Saturday in the Racine Harbor.According to the RacineTMZ officials, a family of six was on board the boat -- three adults and three children.The boat apparently suffered engine trouble, and waves pushed it onto the rocks along Pershing Drive.Everyone on the boat was rescued, thanks to officials with the Racine Fire Department, Racine Police Department, Racine County Sheriff's Office and several citizens.As the photos below show, the boat would eventually sink below the water.It remained tied to a boulder along Pershing Drive after this rescue.It is not believed anyone was hurt in this incident.PHOTO GALLERY

Improper use of fireworks leads to house fire in Racine: $3,000 in damage

RACINE -- Officials with the Racine Fire Department say the improper use of fireworks led to a house fire on the Fourth of July.It happened at a home near 16th and Packard Avenue shortly before 9:00 p.m.Upon arrival at the scene, fire officials found smoke and flames coming from the rear of the building.The fire was quickly contained while additional crews searched for occupants and fire extension -- with neither found.The fire was a result of the improper use of fireworks, officials say.Those who live in the home are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.The fire caused $3,000 worth of damage to the home.No one was hurt.

Fire damages George Town Market, H&H Meats and Catering in Racine

RACINE -- H&H Meats and Catering on Meachem Road near Taylor Avenue in Racine was damaged by fire early on Wednesday morning, May 4th.According to the Racine Fire Department, after opening the George Town Market for business on Wednesday morning, an employee noticed smoke coming from the attached H&H Meats business.911 was called, and firefighters noted smoke showing from the exterior of the building and a fire in the kitchen.Smoke damage was noted throughout the building.No one was hurt.The owners/operators of the businesses are working with the Racine Health Department -- with hopes of reopening later this week.The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Red Cross assists seven children, two adults following bedroom fire in Racine

RACINE -- The American Red Cross was assisting seven children and two adults following a fire on Monday morning, April 18th.The fire broke out at a home near 12th and Highland in Racine shortly before 11:00 a.m.Officials with the Racine Fire Department say the fire happened in a bedroom.No one was home at the time of the fire, which was quickly extinguished.One pet cat was found trapped, but unharmed, and subsequently released.The fire remains under investigation.

Jet skier stranded on Lake Michigan, rescued by Racine Fire Dept.

RACINE -- A jet skier out on Lake Michigan from Racine got stranded on Wednesday afternoon, March 9th.The operator got stranded about two miles out from the Racine shore -- when his machine would not start.The operator called 911 from his cell phone.The Racine Fire Department and U.S. Coast Guard were dispatched.The Racine Fire Department rescued the individual and towed the jet skit back to shore.The call for this incident came in around 3:30 p.m.Officials say the jet skier was wearing a life jacket.Officials caution that while temperatures outside have been warm -- in the 60s and even 70s this week, the water temperature on Lake Michigan is still low -- around 38 degrees.

Hazmat team called out to business in Racine for semi leaking sodium hydroxide

RACINE -- A hazmat team was called out to a business on Stannard Street on Thursday, December 17th for a chemical leak.Racine Fire Department officials say a semi hauling sodium hydroxide (a corrosive chemical used in the plating process) was discovered leaking at Wisconsin Plating Works' receiving docks.The building is located near 6th and S.

Racine firefighter injured in fire at home on Sixth Street; Red Cross assisting occupants

RACINE -- A Racine firefighter was injured while fighting a fire at a home on Sixth Street on Saturday night, December 12th.It happened around 7:00 p.m.Calls came in from multiple callers regarding dark smoke and fire showing at the home.The first crews arrived within three minutes, and quickly extinguished the exterior fire before making an interior attack.The firefighter who was injured suffered minor injuries.

Racine Fire Department: Fire causes $30,000 in damage to vacant home

RACINE -- Firefighters in Racine on Sunday evening, November 1st were called out to a fire at a vacant home.It happened shortly after 6:00 p.m. at a home near 17th and Republic Avenue.Fire officials say the fire started on the exterior of the first floor of the home, and then traveled to the exterior of the second floor.Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and power was shut off to the home.The home was found to be vacant, as its residents recently moved.The fire is now under investigation.We're told the fire caused $30,000 in damage to the home.
