Traffic stop in Racine leads to seizure of 90+ grams of crack, handguns

RACINE -- A traffic stop in Racine uncovered nearly 100 grams of crack cocaine on Thursday, Feb. 21.According to the Racine County Sheriff's Office, a vehicle was pulled over near 21st and Memorial around 12 p.m., for going 46 mph in a 30 mph zone.The driver was identified as a 33-year-old Racine resident.Inside the vehicle, a deputy located and seized 92.5 grams of crack cocaine, two loaded semi-automatic handguns, three digital scales, three cellphones and $4,679 in cash.

15-year-old rescued from Lake Michigan after falling through ice at Racine's North Pier

RACIN E-- A 15-year-old boy was rescued from Lake Michigan and taken to the hospital after falling into the water near North Pier Wednesday evening, Feb. 20.It happened shortly before 6:30 p.m.Officials with the Racine County Sheriff's Office along with police, Racine Fire and Rescue officials and the dive team responded -- and learned the 15-year-old and a 16-year-old friend were walking along the icy shore when the ice gave way, sending the 15-year-old into the water.The boy was struggling to stay above water and swim to shore, as strong waves pushed him further out into the lake.He was rescued and taken to the hospital, where he was said to be in stable condition.“If it wasn’t for the quick actions of our first responders, we undoubtedly would have a much different outcome," said Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling in a news release.

Sheriff: 4 arrested after CO2-powered air rifle fired at home in Racine County

Burlington man arrested for OWI, 3rd offense in crash that left 97-year-old passenger hurt

RACINE COUNTY -- A 55-year-old Burlington man was arrested for his third OWI offense after a crash on Christmas Day, Tuesday, Dec. 25 in the Town of Yorkville in Racine County -- where the vehicle he was driving struck a tree.It happened on County Highway A near 63rd Drive around noon.Officials with the Racine County Sheriff's Office said the driver and his passenger, a 97-year-old man, were both taken to the hospital.
