On Veterans Day, Quaker Steak & Lube presents $4,500 check to Fisher House Wisconsin

NEW BERLIN (WITI) -- On Veterans Day Tuesday, November 11th Quaker Steak & Lube presented a $4,500 check to Fisher House Wisconsin.Zachary and Elizabeth Fisher started the Fisher House Foundation in 1990 after learning of the need for temporary lodging facilities for families at major military medical centers.There are currently 64 Fisher Houses located throughout the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

Honoring veterans: Ceremony held in downtown Milwaukee; lawmakers issue statements

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The rain moved them inside, but it didn't stop the Veterans Day ceremony in downtown Milwaukee.Rain moved the ceremony from MacArthur Square to the gym at the Safety Building.The ceremony was put on by Milwaukee police and Milwaukee firefighters who are American Legion members.The ceremony ended with a playing of taps and a rifle salute.This particular event has been taking place since 1939.---Meanwhile, Governor Scott Walker issued a video message in honor of Veterans Day.
