NEW YORK -- The presidents of the 11 members of the Big East Conference are leaning toward not allowing sports to be played at schools this season unless their campuses are open.Commissioner Val Ackerman disclosed the thinking of the presidents on Friday in a wide-ranging virtual interview with members of the media about the fallout on the conference from the coronavirus pandemic.While no deadlines have been set, Ackerman said the presidents indicated a late June/early July deadline for fall sports, and possibly a Sept. 1 deadline for winter sports, when basketball is played.

'Active Streets' to provide more safe spaces for residents to walk, bike, and run in Milwaukee County

MILWAUKEE -- The City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County officials announced on Friday, May 8 a joint initiative to provide additional temporary recreation spaces for people to safely engage in physical activities such as walking, biking, or running.A news release indicates Milwaukee Active Streets, initiated and overseen by the City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works and Milwaukee County Parks, will temporarily close or limit motor vehicle traffic on approximately 10 miles of streets throughout the city and county for improved bicycle and pedestrian use, to be phased in over the next couple of weeks.

Facebook to allow staff to continue working from home until 2021

MENLO PARK, Calif. -- Facebook will let its employees do their jobs remotely through the end of the year, a company spokeswoman said.The spokeswoman said Facebook does not expect to open many of its offices until at least July, but those who can work from home will be allowed to do so until the end of 2020.Facebook employs nearly 50,000 people and has offices in California, New York and Washington state.

FDA approves 1st at-home saliva test for COVID-19

WASHINGTON -- The Food and Drug Administration has approved the first at-home saliva test for the coronavirus.The test works by having patients collect their saliva samples at home and then returning it to the Rutgers Clinical Genomics Laboratory in a sealed package for testing.Last month, the FDA approved the first at-home test which used samples collected from the patient's nose with a nasal swab and saline.
