MADISON -- University of Wisconsin officials said Monday, May 27 assistant men's basketball coach Howard Moore was up and walking at a hospital after a weekend automobile wreck in Michigan that killed his wife and daughter.The school also said Moore's son, Jerell, had been released from a hospital and was in the care of family.Moore's wife, Jennifer, and daughter Jaidyn were killed early Saturday in the crash on the M-14 highway in Washtenaw County.

University of Wisconsin sees spike in graduation rates

MADISON, Wis. — University of Wisconsin System officials say graduation numbers are up from 10 years ago, and that the number of graduates of color has more than doubled in that period.Wisconsin Public Radio reports that nearly 37,000 students completed their degrees in the last academic year, a 13 percent increase on the 2007-2008 school year.UW System President Ray Cross says there were 4,919 graduates of color in the 2017-2018 school year, up from 1,839 a decade ago.He says the system is looking to build graduation rates through "intrusive advising," a process in which advisers check on students who don't seem to be doing well.Cross acknowledged that enrollment is down overall at the system's 13 campuses, but he says the numbers show they're doing a better job of getting students to graduation.

Regents OK millions in UW-Madison tuition hikes

MADISON — University of Wisconsin System regents are signing off on millions of dollars of tuition increases for out-of-state and graduate students at UW-Madison over the next two academic years.The plan calls for raising non-resident undergraduate tuition $810 and $828 to generate about $16 million in additional revenue.Increases in the university's professional schools include raising School of Business tuition by nearly 10 percent annually, generating about $1.7 million; raising tuition for resident medical doctor students by 5 percent annually and non-resident students by 8 percent annually; and increasing tuition for law students by $2,000 annually, generating about $1.2 million per year.The regents approved the increases unanimously without any discussion at a meeting Friday on the UW-La Crosse campus.

Houston duo accused of stealing textbooks, targeting University of Wisconsin schools

UW study to reclassify jobs, set compensation structure

Study: Falls from tree stands result in spinal injury

UW-Madison faculty, staff to get 4 percent pay increase

MADISON — The University of Wisconsin-Madison has announced plans to give faculty and staff a 4 percent pay increase over the next year.The Wisconsin State Journal reports that a 2 percent pay raise would occur in July followed by another 2 percent increase January 2019.The university says employees must have started in their current positions by Jan. 8, be meeting performance expectations and must complete campus sexual harassment training to qualify for the raise.University Chancellor Rebecca Blank says the raises will help the school keep talented employees.The university says it would be the first time since 2015 that its employees have gotten across-the-board raises.The state Legislature's Joint Committee on Employment Relations must formally approve the plan before it can take effect.

Agent arrested, accused of taking photos in women's bathroom

MADISON — University of Wisconsin police say they've arrested a federal agent for taking photos in a women's restroom at a residence hall.Authorities say the 27-year-old man went into the bathroom at Witte Hall on Friday and put his cell phone under an occupied stall and took pictures.
