YMCA honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Milwaukee
For 26 years, YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee has honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
MILWAUKEE - The YMCA's 26th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration was held at Milwaukee's Potawatomi Hotel & Casino Monday, Jan. 16.
The event celebrates the work of Dr. King while encouraging people to create change in their communities. The celebration included state and city leaders and students.
In the spirit of inclusion, equity and diversity, YMCA invited people to participate in four different discussions on these topics. In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the YMCA brought in students from the spoken word contest to present their poetry representing his legacy.

The theme for 2023 was, "The time is always right to do what is right."
"I think that's a great theme," said Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley. "When you think about it, it's always right for us to do what's right. That's the way that we have been governing, making sure that we make upstream investments, making sure we can get rid of many of the ills we see going on today."
It was the first in-person celebration in two years, with more than 700 people taking part. The event was held virtually in 2022 and 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
