MILWAUKEE - One person is dead in a fatal shooting on Milwaukee’s northwest side on Monday, Dec. 29.
What we know:
The Milwaukee Police Department said it happened around 2:30 p.m. near 59th and Hadley. Police said a suspect fired several shots into a vehicle, striking the victim.

The victim, a 26-year-old, was pronounced dead from gunshot injuries. Police say the suspect or suspects fled the scene, and no arrests have been announced.

MPD continues to search for those responsible and is asking anyone with information to come forward.
Police taped off the area for at least three hours as detectives investigated. FOX6 crews at the scene observed a vehicle with bullet holes along the side and through the back windshield.

The deadly shooting marked another homicide in Milwaukee and came just one day after city leaders and families gathered for the annual "Forever in Our Hearts" candlelight vigil, which honors people lost to gun violence.

What they're saying:
"Nobody’s life deserves to be cut short, especially by deadly gun violence which we see far too often," said Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson.
According to Milwaukee Police Department data, the city had recorded 141 homicides in 2025 as of Sunday, an 8% increase compared to last year. While overall crime has declined, officials say homicides remain a persistent concern.

"When you look at crime overall, things have come down," Johnson said. "But there’s been a persistent issue on homicides this year which is terrible and unfortunate. Because everyone’s life matters."

Police have not released the victim’s identity or what may have led up to the shooting.
