Plane crashes in California neighborhood, 2 killed, 2 hurt

Pothole shuts down runway at Mitchell International Airport

MILWAUKEE -- A spokeswoman with General Mitchell International Airport said Sunday evening, Feb. 3 a pothole led airport officials to close a runway.The pothole was caused by the subzero temperatures we saw last week, and the subsequent rapid warming.The airport spokeswoman said the pothole was being filled and cured by crews.The second runway was being used for the time being.

FAA: Increase in 'sick leave' causing flight delays

NEW YORK -- The Federal Aviation Administration is reporting delays in air travel because of a "slight increase in sick leave" at two East Coast air traffic control facilities.FAA spokesman Gregory Martin said Friday that it had augmented staffing, rerouted traffic and increased spacing between planes as needed.The staffing problems were at air traffic centers in Jacksonville, Florida and a Washington D.C. center that controls high-altitude air traffic over seven states.Martin says safety is being maintained during a period of "minimal impacts" on travel.LaGuardia Airport in New York and Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey were both experiencing delays in takeoffs.

'Snow and ice:' DOT urges drivers to use caution on all roadways during snowstorm

Officials: Cargo plane made emergency landing at General Mitchell Airport

MILWAUKEE -- A private plane made an emergency landing at General Mitchell International Airport on Tuesday, Jan. 15.According to airport officials, the small cargo plane had a gear issue and had to make an emergency landing near the 128th Air Refueling Wing.

FAA bringing back safety inspectors sidelined by shutdown

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Federal Aviation Administration says it has brought about 500 furloughed safety inspectors back to work and expects more to return next week, potentially easing strains on the aviation system amid a partial federal government shutdown.Most of the FAA's 3,000 safety inspectors have been sidelined during the 22-day shutdown .
