527,000 lbs. of food collected during Stamp Out Hunger food drive

MILWAUKEE (WITI) — The Hunger Task Force has announced totals for Milwaukee County for their largest one-day food drive of the year -- the National Association of Letter Carriers’ “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive.This past Saturday, May 11, 527,000 pounds of food were collected in Milwaukee County by the local chapter of the National Association of Letter Carriers, Pioneer Branch 2.This number is up from last year’s initial amount of 474,015 pounds collected locally, but food donations will continue to rise this week as food continues to be collected from local post offices and apartment buildings.Additionally, Milwaukee area Pick 'n Save locations are featuring Hunger Task Force donation boxes through May 20 for those who forgot to donate on Saturday.According to Sherrie Tussler, Executive Director of Hunger Task Force, “We want to thank postal customers all over Milwaukee County for helping feed a hungry neighbor.

Palermo's employees hand out Easter baskets to needy families

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Over 80 Palermo's Pizza employees got the day off on Wednesday, March 27th -- but they were still hard at work!The staff handed out baskets of food to those in need in the Milwaukee area.This is the sixth year that Palermo's has donated Easter baskets to the Hunger Task Force of Milwaukee.There were more than 1,500 baskets created and they included more than just an Easter meal."We've got a big ham, Easter ham, three Palermo's Pizzas, two big bags of chicken breast.

Boy Scouts collect over 147,000 pounds of food in annual food drive

GREENDALE (WITI) -- The annual Boy Scout food drive has wrapped up for another year.This year, the Boy Scouts collected more than 147,000 pounds of food."Later this week the food will start going out to all of the programs that rely on feeding america for food.

Match Day 2013 kicks off on Thursday, March 14th

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- On Thursday, March 14th, individuals can donate to any of the 21 participating agencies or to the Greater Milwaukee Foundation’s Basic Needs Fund for the 2013 "Match Day." A total of $750,000 will be available to match contributions and grow the impact of a donor’s gift.

Waukesha Expo Market offers antiques, plus a way to give back

WAUKESHA (WITI) -- A flea market, featuring antiques and collectibles took over the Waukesha Expo Market at the Waukesha County Fairgrounds Arena this weekend, March 9th and 10th.This popular treasure hunt also allowed visitors to give back.The Waukesha Expo Market offered variety -- from collectible comic books and antique oil paintings to aged ceramics and one-of-a-kind jewelry."We never know what we`re going to find and that`s the fun of it," Christine Callahan said.Christine and Arthur Callahan said the Waukesha Expo Market is one of their favorite places to find one-of-a-kind items."It`s fun to see what you can find for a reasonable price," Arthur Callahan said."Sometimes I don`t know I want it until I find it," Christine Callahan said.Whether it's an old item to spruce up a new home or a playful toy to tap into your inner child, this place helped people reminisce."Nice nostalgic feeling when you`re in here," Christine Callahan said.Beyond the tables of collectibles from 59 vendors, three boxes sat prominently, where customers could donate non-perishable food items for the Hunger Task Force.Last year, the market was one of the Hunger Task Force's biggest donors."We really want to break last year`s record and help everybody in need of that food," Jeff Herbert, owner of the Waukesha Expo Market said.This was the last show for the Waukesha Expo Market this season.

Hunger Task Force exceeds goal of 100,000 jars of peanut butter

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Hunger Task Force announced Thursday, February 28th that 101,267 jars of peanut butter have been donated, exceeding the goal of 100,000.The call went out to the public on January 3rd with notification that Hunger Task Force was facing a peanut butter shortage.
